![So, Adultin[g]. turns 1 today. I knowww, RIGHT?! Anyway, I think I found a way to celebrate.
STORYTIME Y’ALL.
When I was developing my own taste in music, loving rap enough to even have a favorite song or rapper, etc., I remember taking MARTA to Tower Records across from Lenox Mall. In the early days, I had a Walkman. Back then, you couldn’t think about a “portable cd player” unless you had “portable cd player money.” Needless to say, I didn’t, at least not for a couple Christmases.
But still, what I remember most about those pilgrimages (a bus and 2 trains) was the excitement. I remember some of the cassettes had liner notes and fold outs and extras with all sorts of cool stuff. I used to be so geeked about the lil’ accoutrements; it was always a real dope part of my experience. I guess I’m nostalgic like that ‘cause I really wanted to capture that feeling again, I wanted to give that feeling…a “something” to be excited about.
Crazy thing is, I worked on this album for so long, so many times I thought I was done, thought this was THEE version. Well, I put these babies into production one of the many times I was wrong, lol. It’s a totally different sequence, different records, a different album really, I was telling a different story then, I guess. But, if you’re into collector’s items, here’s a glimpse into what we thought Adultin[g]. was then.
With no further adieu, I give you the Adultin[g]. Collector’s Edition “Prot[o].tape.” Signed & numbered by me, accompanied by the accoutrements (assorted stickers & buttons), as a special “preeeeeeesh.” #linkinbio
And maybe it goes without saying but a HUGE thanks to all involved (tagged), all y’all who listened/still listen, and all y’all who finna go listen for the first time now. Year 1 has been super special for ya boy and gratitude is a must.
Oh! And they work!
LOVE
