Thought I’d try a little recreation of this piece by one of my favourite artists @ojoagi 🖤 From the series ‘Daughters of Diaspora’.

The Feast: A gathering of 100 Black Wimmin Artists!! It is with the greatest excitement that I share a project we have spent the last few months building. In 2016 I founded a group called Black Wimmin Artist for Black women and GNC people. Back then it was a group of a handful of artists who I would share opportunities with: calls for submission, jobs, housing resources whatever. Monthly I'd highlight a different Black artist, share their work and some writing on their practice. Since 2016 the group has now grown to over 150 Black wimmin artists from across Canada. This gathering, The Feast, marks a history setting moment. It would be the first time an event of this scale of and by exclusively Black wimmin will take over the AGO. It is part performance, part witnessing, part celebration, part infiltration. It is a moment we will focus on ourselves and these practices of ours that continue to feed us. So proud of the folks who have been laboring behind the scenes to make this happen, artists: @najlanubyanluv, @ojoagi, @itssetti, @ravenlam__ @colouredconversations and #SadoraAsefaw. Nigerian-Canadian artist @ojoagi explores what it means to be "black enough" in her latest series, Daughters of the Diaspora. She describes her work as expressive portraits as she tries to capture emotions, feelings and expressions in her subjects. Our interview with the artist is on designindaba.com now. #illustration #africandiaspora #africanart #daughtersofthediaspora #ojoagi
