ENCUENTRO

Created in collaboration with Malina Cipleu, Encuentro grew from the idea of bringing people together—of community, connection, and the relationships that form between individuals and across a shared space.

The work was inspired by the circular patterns of Oklahoma’s agricultural fields as seen from the air. These forms became a visual language for us: individual elements gathering, overlapping, separating and reconnecting across the architecture.

Made from kiln-formed glass, the installation unfolds throughout the stairwell, responding to its walls, corners, changing viewpoints and light. Each element exists on its own, yet together they become part of a larger rhythm—a landscape that reveals itself differently as one moves through the space.

After months of imagining, testing, making and installing, it is deeply rewarding to see Encuentro finally living in the space for which it was created.

So much goes into bringing a work like this to life. Our heartfelt thanks to Klint Schor and Danny Vo for helping us install and document Encuentro, and to everyone who trusted us and helped make this project possible.

Commissioned under Oklahoma City’s 1% for Art Ordinance.

Boat update… as in every tragedy, loss, or devastation, their is little other to do than a good old fashion dust off, usually a fear tears, some community rallying and for most normal people, a time of rebuilding. That’s what we have started. With the help of countless uplifting hands, caring words, a wide breadth of support and some really nasty clean up , we have got the boat out of deep water. We removed the mass of destroyed burnt wood, gave her a major hose off, lifted her from her home in military park and transported her to my shop for a face lift.

We don’t have an exact plan, but we know we will rebuild and replace. The boat, like the people she represents, with a determined community and some blood sweat and tears will come out on the other side stronger, more resilient and with more stories to tell.

Thanks to the countless donations to the fundraising campaign, to @inasmuchfdn , to the @asiandistrictok , @thestevele, @webbykcaj_ and Bobby Busha for literally getting their hands the most dirty, @justin_wishon at Erigo construction for moving this beast.. and anyone else I forgot. 🙏. Now we just have to decide how to rebuild this boat bigger and better ( and tougher) than before .
