A few weeks ago, I celebrated my 30th birthday with some of my closest friends and family at @co1orclub 🍾

I wanted my friends to experience one of the Russian restaurant birthday parties that I grew up going to, so I hired @oldbatsrestaurant to cater a beautiful menu full of pickled things, my favorite Eastern European & Central Asian salads and delicious vareniki and Plov entrees + dessert. They also made infused vodka shots of black currant, beet & horseradish! I highly recommend hiring them if you are looking to do a pop up or unique catering.

My incredible partner @averqueondas brought her best post soviet emcee vibe to the function & made sure I wasn’t stressed the entire night. She also gave me a speech in Russian. A true mensch.

I also invited my cousin @mona_lisker to sing songs that would be sung at a ruski restaurant bday, accompanied by the incredibly talented @akenyamusic.

Witnessing my friends dress up, my family dancing with my friends, my friend’s kids goin’ nuts on the dance floor was a true blessing. It’s all I ever want. It was one of the best nights I’ve ever experienced. After all the grief of the last 6 years, I needed something that truly honored life while we are still here.

P.S my libra guilty conscience wishes I could’ve invited everyone I’ve ever known and one day when I throw a giant public party, that’ll be the case. Don’t feel bad if you were not here! I had to keep things tight 🫡

This month’s Rooftop Radio is in collaboration with @oldbatsrestaurant! Old Bat’s is a food and drink pop-up run by husband and wife duo Quentin Yarolem and Nicole Khvalabov. They strive to create community around shared dining experiences that highlight local, seasonal produce.

🔥🔥🔥NEW POP-UP ALERT 🔥🔥🔥

Old Bat's (@oldbatsrestaurant) has their first pop-up at La Dive (@ladiveseattle) this Sunday 3/26 at Noon.

Here's the story of the people behind this pop-up:

Quentin and Nicole moved to Seattle a year and a half ago from Iowa City. Quentin has been cooking at the Walrus and the Carpenter ever since, while Nicole works with @seattlepublicschools

Old Bat’s is named after Quentin's Great-Grandmother. "I actually gave her the nickname after throwing a tantrum over a lack of cookies in her house. I screamed at the top of my six-year-old lungs, 'You’re just an Old Bat with no cookies!'", says Quentin. "From that point on she was affectionately known as Grandma Old Bat by all."

That adorable backstory fits perfectly with Old Bat's familial approach to food and hospitality, and with La Dive's intimate space.

At Sunday's pop-up, Old Bat's will be serving a few different types of savory hand-pies and galettes, including a sausage gravy and egg hand pie, and a ham&swiss galette topped with pickled fennel and a sunnyside egg. A couple of donut varieties wrap up the menu. It's brunchcore!

So excited to announce that we’ll be having our first pop-up at La Dive on March 26th! We’ll go from 12-3 PM or sell out, whatever happens first. We will be serving savory galettes, donuts, and hand pies. La Dive will be slinging their usual amazing drinks ❤️

We will also have some merch available!
