Presenting the DAE Graduation Show 2025 through thematic narratives by @nadineb0tha.

Maria Ribes Sola’s (@maria_ribes_sola) ‘Growing Down’ reframes childhood dress-up as a tool for unlearning adult norms, translating memories into an oversized, performative costume collection. Nerby, Agustina Gutiérrez Lamas’s (@studioaggu) ‘Reconstructing Identity’ uses mate tea as a lens to explore Latin American cultural memory, reframing everyday rituals as acts of connection against globalisation.

Aki Hayama’s (@akih2019) graphic novel ‘Whole New City’ uses an adapted manga style to trace how the loss of homeland after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake shapes identity, blending fiction with personal migration history. Olfa Rachdi (@olfa_rachdi) maps the intersection of North African and European cultures through twelve personal histories from Marseille. Her installation uses responsive hydrochromatic ink to symbolise the fluid, shifting nature of dual heritage.

Finally, Ming-Chun (Patrick) Chiang’s (@patrickchiang_) ‘Microchips Recipes’ investigates the human stories behind global technology supply chains. Through a three-channel video installation featuring Taiwanese TSMC and ASML factory workers, Chiang reveals home as a fluid, collective experience shaped by care rather than fixed political identity.

INTERVIEW 🎙️ We’re thrilled to feature the incredibly talented Alexia Arnould, a visionary Still Life Photography Set Designer, in our #issue02 August 2024

Alexia’s work transforms everyday objects into mesmerizing visual stories, and in this exclusive interview, she shares her creative process, inspirations, and the magic behind her stunning set designs.

— Interview by @mdeea__ founder Classico Magazine

Dea: How do you incorporate elements of storytelling in your fashion still life pieces?

“It generates itself. I mainly trust the process, when there’s something that emerges, we all recognize that the image work. But sometimes, I deliberately add things that just make me me laugh or that I find interesting to look at” said Alexia

Through photographic work in Morocco, Olfa Rachdi explores her French-Moroccan cultural hybridity, working within her interpretation of the “Third Space”. For Rachdi, it is a space that emerges when oriental and occidental cultures interact, challenging mono-cultural identities and allowing for the reinterpretation of their imagery.

In “Mabayn Athnayn, Inbetween,” Rachdi distorts her photography of Morocco and screen prints it onto leather, layering them to display the intersectional lens of her mixed cultural heritage. In expressing her full nuanced self, it explores the complexities of identity in contemporary society.

From France and the Maghreb, Olfa Rachdi imbues her visual language with both European and North African references. Her projects call for looking at these through different lenses: interdisciplinary work being essential to the construction of her ideas.

Parallel – After School Episode exhibition features works of 17 graduates from Design Academy Eindhoven. While the Graduation Show at the Dutch Design Week allows to show only one of the two projects developed by each individual, Parallel sheds light on these emerging designers and their efforts that would otherwise go unseen.

Curated by the graduates themselves, who have become close friends over the years of their study, the first edition of this multidisciplinary exhibition will be featured during DDW 2024.

See you in October ! 💙
