Galeries Lafayette, Les Archives de … Peter Knapp, documentary

We’ve been honored to produce and direct this 23mn documentary portrait of Peter Knapp, world-renowned swiss photographer, graphic designer, painter, cinematographer, art director and typographer. He operated as the art director at the Galeries Lafayette, from 1953 to 1959, then for ELLE Magazine, VOGUE, FORTUNE, Emmanuel Ungaro, André Courège, etc...
This is the first episode of a series of portrait entitled “The Archives of …”, focusing on the historical art directors of the Galeries Lafayette.
The Archives and Patrimonial Department of the Galeries Lafayette opened its doors and drawers to us to (re)discover the history of the greatest artistic directors who created, developed, and shaped the image of the Galeries Lafayette from the 1950s to the present day.
Our second piece of this series focused on Jean-Paul Goude.

Peter Knapp, Paris, September 2023. Meeting such a legend of photography and graphic design has been an epic moment while directing a series of documentary portraits for the @galerieslafayette in 2023-2024. Nicest person around and so much passion and energy still to this day. #peterknapp #photography #fashionphotography #fashion #artdirection #graphicdesign #elle #ellemagazine #painter #dimdamdom #vogue #hasselblad #zeiss #kodak #tmax400 #tmax #ishootfilm #120love #photoshopfree #nofilter #paris #analogphotography

Jean-Paul Goude, Paris, November 2023. Meeting another legend of photography, art direction and illustration has been as epic as meeting Peter Knapp, just a month prior to that, while directing a series of documentary portraits for the @galerieslafayette in 2023-2024. I was able to shoot this one at his home studio on the Butte Bergeyre in Paris, France and got granted with his iconic smile and classic derby shoes/high socks style on that one. #jeanpaulgoude #goudemalion #illustration #photography #fashionphotography #fashion #artdirection #director #graphicdesign #esquire #gracejones #laeticiacasta #kodak #chanel #egoiste #perrier #hasselblad #blad #503cxi #zeiss #kodak #tmax400 #tmax #ishootfilm #120love #paris #analogphotography
