February 2020 - Forest Hills Homeschool NYC Coop, before we were LEAF CoLearning Collective, we really started to see growth in numbers. We created our first Winter Art Club and parents volunteered their time at different times to support their kiddos and others. We also hired our first Teqching artist from my personal art studio, @arttablestudio. This part 1 of lol idk 5. Each day we visited an arts institution or arts organization or business across the 5 boroughs. #teachertohomeschooler #homeschool #homeschooling #homeschoolcurriculum #homeschool nyc

February 2020 - Fb Homeschool NYC Coop, emote we were LEAF, One of our favorite places to visit was the @bronxzoo. Again we didn’t know this was one of the last places we’d visit together for everything changed in March. But during this month we c’est la vie! lol Again, homeschooling together with working parents looks like one one parent has off, they volunteer…if they can. It wasn’t a requirement for us. One parent might pay for our uber ride, another might stay in person, another might bring snacks. Our parents never had pressure to doing anything for us. Everyone did what they could and wanted to contribute. #teachertohomeschooler #homeschool #homeschooling #homeschoolcurriculum #homeschool nyc

February 2020 - Forest Hills Homeschool NYC Co-op, before we were LEAF CoLearning Collective. This month we explored lots of projects around our water unit. This was one of our last projects before the pandemic and lockdowns in NYC. We really enjoyed train rides. Lol #teachertohomeschooler #homeschool #homeschooling #homeschoolcurriculum #homeschoolnyc

January 2020 - wow. The year that changed the world, but before March, Forest Hills Homeschool Co-op NYC, and before we were LEAF CoLearning Collective in Charlotte, NC - Our co-op grew this month. We were mixed age groups and different grade levels. The are friendships that have stayed with us to this day. And my son actually got a best friend out of the co-op. ☀️ We started going beyond the park and adventuring more in the city. For a writing unit, we wrote letters to our family and friends and walked to the local post office to mail them. This is what homeschooling together could look like.

December 2019 - Forest Hills NYC Homeschool Co-op, before we were LEAF CoLearning Collective, I can’t emphasize enough how important the village is, especially when homeschooling. Our families, who are all working parents, come together however they can to support. They always show up. ☀️🌱

November 2019 - Forest Hills Homeschool Co-op before we were LEAF CoLearning Collective, was filled with extended family vibes. Queens is the most beautiful place in the world, specifically, Forest Hills. It’s so rich with diverse cultures and languages, even faiths from all around the world. The second photo is from our adopted grandmom, Mrs. Schindlers and her Li-AM. We miss you Mrs. Schindler. The sweetest soul. This is how you homeschool together. Inner generationally. Teach them how to live with others. Compassion and love. And in the first photo is a grandparent of one of our co-opers. He lovingly spent the day with us, from France.

October 2019 - Forest Hills Homeschool NYC Coop, before we were LEAF CoLearning Collective. I love introducing our students and or creative to new foods. My husband’s family is Guyanese. So we used plantains to create an herbal spice tea while studying in fractions. If you can find a group who is willing to Homeschool with you, please do it. The sky is the absolute limit of what’s possible with Homeschooling because of our mixed ages. We worked with our parents to decide what was important for them and their child to learn and a child brought their work with them. We worked on it together and where they were areas for acceleration we moved faster where there were areas for depth and comprehension we slowed down. It is possible.
