A final round of clips from my interview with the German skateboard podcast “Sach Ma”. Here we chatted about what made me decide to move to New York City at the turn of the millennium, branching out from skateboarding and meeting a young skater by the name of Oli Tielsch (RIP) in the fall of 2002. Happy Birthday to our brother, Tino Razo.
Over 30 years of friendship, skateboarding, and memories. Digging through the archives and finding photos like this reminds us how lucky we were to share these moments together. Missing those who are no longer with us, and grateful for the ones who are. Wishing you a year filled with good health, good times, and plenty of time on your board. Have an amazing birthday, Tino. Two more photos from the late summer / early fall of 2002 when Oli Tielsch and I were pushing around NYC shooting for what would eventually become his interview in the pan-European skateboard mag Kingpin. It was Oli‘s first time in New York and he really, really loved every minute of it. The skating, the homies at Zoo York who were flowing him boards at the time and yes, definitely hitting all the classic bars, galleries and parties at night. Hence the I Love NY shirt which he picked up at one of the tourist shops on Mulberry Street before we hit the Brooklyn Banks and then later the ledge at Pace, seen here. The Switch 50-50 came pretty easy and then Oli really wanted that Switch Crooks but kept getting stuck in a big crack right in the middle of the ledge that prevented him from riding away as clean as he would have wanted if. Showing it here anyway, with that context, which I feel like Oli would have been cool with. These photos were shot on a vintage Hasselbald using two flashes and medium format Fuji Velvia film. It was always tricky to get the exposure, shutter speed and light just right with that set up, long before any real digital tools but it worked out here. Pretty sure we went straight to Max Fish that night cause I some shots of Oli playing pool in that shirt. Miss you my friend. RIP.

Das Wochenende hat neben bestem (Skate-)Wetter auch noch eine ganz besondere Überraschung zu bieten: Niemand Geringeres als @helge.tscharn veröffentlicht mit „Capsule“ ein Best-of seiner fotografischen Arbeiten von 1987 bis 2024. Das gute Stück ist auf 300 Exemplare limitiert. Wer eins haben möchte…schickt direkt eine DM an @helge.tscharn

Vor knapp 25 Jahren bist du nach Köln gezogen, warst einer der besten Skater, die die Domplatte je ihr Zuhause nannten, hast Köln zu deiner Heimat gemacht und wir hatten großartige Zeiten mit dir. Vor etwa 2 Wochen bist du gegangen. Oli, wo auch immer du jetzt bist, es war uns eine Ehre. „Tschüss Oliver“♥️
