A SCHOLAR'S GUIDE TO MYTHICAL QUESTING out summer 2027 @chickenhousebooks

Huge congratulations to Olive Morris, her cosy fantasy duology was pre-empted by Chicken House!

In a sun-parched world where water is controlled, life on a peach farm isn’t enough for Gwyn, who longs to join the Academy as a scholar. But, according to society, that’s not what grunions like her are meant to do. Soon after enrolling, she learns of the mythical Spring Fane, a shrine which can grant wishes. Defying the High Council, she sneaks away to find the Fane and wish for what she wants the most: to bring water back to the kingdom. With a band of unlikely heroes – including a dwarf bladesmith, an aspiring chef sparren and a magical fruit wagon – Gwyn embarks on a quest across the desert-like Wastelands filled with far more danger than the dusty tomes in the library.

Get ready for A Scholar’s Guide to Mythical Questing coming to you summer 2027!

There has been a huge buzz at St. Dunstan’s in Glastonbury as we have purchased 34 new manga books for their school library. Manga is hugely popular amongst the students with its action packed storylines and amazing illustrations. This is just one of of book donations in 2026 made possible by all the wonderful Friends, Sponsors and ticket buyers at the Wells Festival of Literature. Thank you.

I am still recovering from my book launch and I wanted to say thank you to everyone who was there and who has supported me from the start. I will never forget yesterday’s event. To have people from Glenthorne High School, authors, librarians, booksellers and neighbours flock to @waterstoneskensington to celebrate A Million Tiny Missiles All At Once means more to me than I can write down. To have my parents and 96 year old grandmother watching from Nova Scotia was very special. To have my in laws there to support me was amazing and the best part was having my wife and children there because I wouldn’t have been standing there without them. Thank you to @shaluvallepur for such a great speech to introduce me. I wanted to make sure to thak @jazzbartlettlove for getting my novel in so many hands and minds. It was a real Herculean effort and I am very grateful. Thank you to @lydiarsilver for helping me in so many ways and thank you to everyone at @chickenhousebooks. I am very excited to see it out there, thank you.

Just here to interrupt your feed with these totally adorable medieval woodcut bunny knights I did a while back for @olivemorrisauthor - they make a wonderful little team wrapped around her arm and riding snails, are you kidding me?….. adorable level 10000. 🖤

I always enjoy a medieval woodcut style tattoo so if you’ve been thinking of one don’t hesitate to get in touch! Drop the word “KNIGHT” in the comments if you’d like the info sent right to your inbox 🖤

What a whirlwind the last few days have been! It was an absolute joy to attend the Chicken House Big Breakfast, and though I may not have won a prize I DID win a fabulous day out, and the most amazing note from Barry Cunningham, and chats with brilliant people, and afternoon tea with fabulous authors and the Chicken House team, and the dream feels closer, and I have much to be thankful for 🥰

Yesterday was straight back to reality, running around after children and delivering a Christmassy spa wellbeing session for TempleSpa, so I’m currently grateful for a chilled out Saturday to take stock and re-centre and feel proud of my little story, which this time last year was still finding its way onto the page 🙏🏻 📖 🐺

Had a whale of a time judging for the Times/Chicken House Children's Fiction Competition this week with the most thoughtful and insightful panel of judges! It was such a celebratory and joyful way to spend the morning. HUGE congratulations to the winners, a MASSIVE thank you to Chicken House for letting me take part again this year, and a special shout out to the trio of Lucys who ended up on the panel! It was a pleasure talking books with you all 🥰
