INTRODUCING @oliver__hyde

Oliver Hyde is a furniture designer and maker based in Tarntanya (Adelaide), South Australia, working under the name Circles X Squares. A geometric reference to his initials, the studio name reflects an intentional ambiguity, allowing play and experimentation to guide movement between different materials, processes and ideas.
Informed by a foundation in timber joinery, Oliver’s practice extends beyond a singular material or method, embracing the unique possibilities offered by different forms of making. His work explores furniture as a means of shaping everyday rituals and interactions and considers how objects influence the ways we inhabit spaces and engage with one another. Moving between precision and spontaneity, refinement and expression, he creates enduring objects that balance utility, material character and the presence of the hand.

Introducing At The Table. A curated dinner and design experience created for Adelaide Design Week 2026.

At The Table brings together Adelaide artists, designers, makers and food around one of the most familiar rituals we share. The act of dining.

Over seven courses, the table will continually transform. Each course will be presented using tableware and glassware created by a different local artist, with every piece selected to respond to the food, the setting and the experience.

The menu will be thoughtfully paired with drinks throughout the evening, creating a progression of flavour, material and form from one course to the next.

This is an opportunity to experience local design differently. Not behind glass or on a plinth, but in your hands, in front of you and as part of the meal.

Design made to be used.

At The Table is a celebration of the people making, cooking and creating in our community and what can happen when those practices come together.

Artist: Oliver Hyde @oliver__hyde

Title: The 100Hz Chair 
Oliver Hyde is a designer-maker exploring structure, balance, and material honesty through bold geometric timber forms. Using traditional techniques, he creates sculptural furniture that blurs the line between functional object and architectural gesture.

Statement: The 100Hz Chair embodies a monolithic simplicity. Its geometric planes create a low visual hum, poised between tension and stability, allowing the raw timber to emphasise material purity and structural clarity.
