Need restful sleep? what actually works — ranked according to science

1️⃣ CBT-I (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia) — the gold standard. Think + behave your way to sleep. 4-8 sessions. Superior to all classes of sleeping medications.

2️⃣ Sleep Restriction— counterintuitive but powerful. *Less* time in bed = better sleep. Builds your body's natural sleep drive.

3️⃣ Stimulus Control— bed = sleep only. (Yes, that means no doom-scrolling.) Retrains your brain's association with your bedroom.

4️⃣ Cognitive Restructuring— challenge the anxious thoughts keeping you up. "I'll never sleep" → actually the most harmful thing you can tell yourself.

5️⃣ Mindfulness + ACT— stop fighting wakefulness. Acceptance actually helps you fall asleep faster.

6️⃣ Brief Behavioral Therapy— can't do full CBT-I? Even 1-4 sessions works.

7️⃣ Exercise— especially strength + walking if you're over 40. Yes, it counts.
