Why we have projects in three completely different parts of Australia... 🇦🇺

Oli is from Renmark, South Australia, so that’s where our property journey began. Mel grew up on the Gold Coast which is home for us!

And if you’re wondering how Kingaroy fits into all of this... well that’ll be part 3 🤠

As much as we loved living our best lives in Palm Beach, we quickly realised paying $1,250 a week for a two bedroom apartment wasn’t a long term plan… especially with a new addition on the way.

7 months pregnant, we jumped in the car and headed northbound up the M1 in search of our next project.

We inspected three properties in Southport. All were over $1 million, and two were complete knockdowns. This was the third one we looked at, and the fact we could tidy it up to live in, and utilise the section out the back made it a done deal.

We negotiated a 3 month settlement and officially got the keys when Tilly was just 3 weeks old 🫣

Everything’s fine 😅😅

The keys we don’t need because the first thing we did was demolish the porch lol….

The porch… 👋🏼

First stop in France: Le Château in Brie 🇫🇷

It’s been a bucket list item for Oli to come to France and trace back his family history, so standing here was pretty special.

This is the surviving part of the old château where his ancestors lived over 300 years ago. For generations, the family lived, worked and raised their children here before eventually making their way to England after the French Revolution, and many years later to Australia.

Not quite our usual property content, but interesting to see the history in these places compared to back home. This one is definitely in need of some love inside.

Never a dull trip to Bunnings with this guy...
I think it was this exact moment that I realised he’s the one for me 😂

While dad was tidying up downstairs, Oli got to work in our main bathroom upstairs - resheeting, flushing and waterproofing it, ready for the tiler… Dad 🤭

The first thing we noticed when inspecting this place to buy, was the missed opportunity to open up the space to outside. We knew the rear window had to be replaced with French doors.

Oli found a set on Marketplace, and we flew my very handy dad over from New Zealand for the first of many jobs on this trip.

First things first, we (and by we, I mean Oli) ripped into bathroom and laundry demo.

Fun times navigating using a big, loud jack hammer, and being one of 8 apartments in the row, with neighbours all around and an *absolutely delightful* head of body corporate… 🙃

Looking back, there’s a lot of thumbs up here 😂 must’ve only been week one…

Throwing it back to where it all started while we wait for our Southport project to really get underway…!

Our first home, our first reno together, and the project that taught us a lot… including that in this hot Gold Coast market, we probably would’ve made the same on the sale - reno or not 😂

She was a beauty and apart from the peach tones, very comfortable as is. We were incredibly lucky to revalue the property in under a year, which allowed us to access funds and get started on the renovation.

Oli has just put together a full renovation video over on his YouTube channel OliverFlying 🎥

We have grass… again! 🌱
Full circle with a lush front lawn, plus retaining walls to create a flat, usable yard.

Many scoops of clay later and we’re super stoked with how it’s turned out.

Now time to get that paint gun out for the fences and retaining walls, add some lush plants, and finish the path… but we’ll leave that until the house lift and reno is done.

Kingaroy is close to our hearts - it was our very first stop when Oli flew us out here on our way to Uluru, after knowing each other for just two months. We pitched a tent and camped on the runway. Little did we know that five years later we’d own property here together.

More recently, Oli has been working on projects in the area and has seen first hand the need for more worker accommodation.
