Now that fall weather is kicking in we’re looking back on the warmer months of our epic summer season.

We spent the entire summer next to lakes with stellar people and we’re still feeling the magic of it all!

This is such a special gem of a festival and we loved meeting new wonderful colleagues and friends, working with such present and engaged students, and soaking in the wonders of PEC.

Tracking songs like ‘When You Look at Me’ live was an unforgettable experience. I feel that we captured an energy in the room, that overwhelming force that takes over when people play live together. I kept feeling overcome with chills during this song in particular, like there was something magical moving through my body. It was an experience of a lifetime for us to work with @philipweinrobe at the beautiful @chicken_shack. The musicians in the room are in the third slide with tags. We weren’t even going to track this song until Jared remembered hearing it and liking it and now it’s my favorite on the album! They brought so much to the table and we’re forever grateful!

“’Dance Dance Dance (跳舞跳舞跳舞)’ is a groovy, riff-laden, slightly psychedelic, disco bop that we wrote in early 2025,” said Anne of the track. “It’s a simple song, about getting down to the groove! Bryce had written the bass line & drums first, and we remember listening back and just wanting to bop and move our bodies. So as the song developed, we decided that it should be about just that. The lyrics are about moving, grooving, and listening to the beat. “Waiting for the wu liu qi (5 6 7). Take me to the san er yi (3 2 1), I don’t wanna lose it. I just wanna move it. Hey!”.”

The album is not quite finished yet, we still have some bass lines to record, a few extra vocals to add, and plenty of editing ahead of us, but lately I’ve been feeling so much gratitude that I wanted to share a little of this journey.

Over the past months, we’ve been turning hundreds of demos, fragments of songs, voice notes and ideas into something that is finally beginning to feel like an album.

A huge thank you to Oliver Hill for somehow making sense of the chaos of my endless demos and helping shape them into a beautiful musical journey. From his home studio to Altamira Studios, he has produced this record with incredible care, while also orchestrating and performing all the strings himself. A true one man show.

Thank you to Robert at Altamira Studios, to Charlie Ferguson on drums. Charlie was a member of my old band and we toured together many years ago, so it feels especially meaningful to be making new music together again after all this time. Thank you also Leng Bain on harp, Logan Hone on flute and saxophone, Morgan Meyn Nagler on lyrics, Cam Bowen on vocals, Haroula Spyropoulou, and my wonderful friends Netta and Sarah for singing, playing, encouraging, and bringing so much heart to these songs.

And to my husband Stavros, thank you for your unwavering support, your faith in me through every stage of this process, and for the beautiful lyrics that continue to inspire me.

Making a record can be messy, exhausting, surprising, and magical all at once. Right now, I’m just feeling lucky to be surrounded by such talented and generous people.

Symphony Saturdays is an ongoing series of inclusive one-day chamber orchestras, where musicians from varying backgrounds come together to learn and share a symphony in a single afternoon (this one’s Mozart 25, fourth movement). The only goal is to play with joy, without the fear of perfection, and to be electrified by the music of Mozart, Schubert, Mendelssohn and more.
