Circling Home: Embracing The Infinite

The circle is a shape as ancient as humanity itself, a symbol that transcends time, culture, and place. From the rising sun to the eternal moon, the circle represents the infinite, the boundless, and the cyclical nature of existence. It’s a form that draws us in, offering both a beginning and an end—yet neither fully.

Olafur Eliasson captured this perfectly in his monumental work at Tate’s Turbine Hall, where a hazy orange orb hung in the air like a second sun, casting long shadows and illuminating the collective consciousness of all who stood before it. It was a moment of pause, a meditation on light, life, and the space between. A circle that held the world within it, simple yet profound.

This week, our curation honours the circle in all its forms. From Painting Is Infinite 88 which draws directly from Eliasson’s ethereal vision, to Coral Churchill’s stunning triptych Mind's Island - a piece that stretches 180cm across, or more if you space out its wooden panels, creating a dynamic play of form and space. Whether it’s a still life of a perfect Rosemary Burn marble, an abstract exploration of the circle, or a celestial reference, these pieces invite you to step into their orbit.

Embrace the circle in your home - be it a small object on a shelf or a large-scale statement piece and connect with this timeless, universal symbol. These works add a touch of harmony and balance to your space, resonating with the ancient power of the circle.

And of course, a reminder for our UK residents: all work can be purchased interest-free with an Own Art loan, just select this option at checkout.

As always, let us know if we can assist in any way.

Here’s some little snippets of some close up shots from the archive. 📸

All these pieces were painted in 2021, the year I decided to I return to my practice after taking a lot of time out for other kinds of work, maternity leave and motherhood!

〰️ A little process vid of todays offering. 〰️

Started with tearing a rough edge to the paper. Then a very light (Indian red) wash. Then some warm grey drawing ink and a natural hair calligraphy brush.

No agenda here, just free forming a figure which I’ll roll with later….maybe. I feel like there is a sort of roller dex of various figurative imagery in my brain…and my hand just goes with what feels right. A deffo Blakey vibe with this one!! Will see if it survives.

'Spirit Within, is an exhibition bringing together the practices of eight women artists. The exhibition showcases a unique, multidisciplinary insight into how contemporary women artists draw upon themes of mysticism, spirituality, tradition, and the occult, through a distinctly feminist lens.

This exhibition reveals our own relationships with occult practices and experiences, no matter how small, and encourages us to view them within the wider feminist and historical context. Themes explored in the exhibition include power, dreams, femininity, memory, the sublime, and knowledge-sharing, via painting, ceramics, textiles, mosaic, drawing, collage & performance.

It is both a constant resource for feminists and audiences alike to marvel at the many approaches to mysticism and spirituality. This exhibition, and the artists who partake, evoke the inexpressible through both form and aesthetics, and ultimately help lift the veil on a powerful practice and feminist history.'

Today an iconic swimming pool print by David Hockney will go on auction.

In anticipation we’ve curated a Director’s Picks, inspired by the work of an artist who's been making waves in contemporary art for almost six decades. 🌀

And on the blog you can read The Arrival of Spring: 3 Emerging Artists in Conversation With Hockney.
