For 10 years now, this house on the farm has been our weekend retreat, hunting cabin, and maybe the best place left east of the Mississippi River to find some solitude. This past weekend, Phineas and Eli, along with Olivia and Naomi, help me move the furniture out to the barn so we can tear down the house and replace it.

Bittersweet, mixed emotions, and all the cliches apply. I have many happy memories of evenings spent in that house with Uncle Bud and Aunt Nina, watching Hee Haw on the satellite tv, enjoying grape pie, molasses cookies...discussing the finer points of rural Appalachian life as detailed in the Foxfire book series. I miss them very much.

The new quarters at the farm should offer more amenities and Miss Holley will surely appreciate fewer encounters with mice and spiders. I'm certain Uncle Bud and Aunt Nina would approve, but I'm grateful for the house they built that was a second home to me for much of my youth and a second home to my family for the last decade.

It was an honor and a privilege to work for Congressman Thomas Massie this year.

If you weren't already aware of this little side quest of mine, here's the backstory:

I joined the Thomas Massie for Congress campaign as an intern in January of this year, making social media graphics for events and fundraisers. I have absolutely no training in graphic design, but under the amazing leadership of Political Director, Carlisle Sutton @carlydelight , we were able to make it work. Very grassroots. . .

I was also very fortunate to work with Michael Carrol, Dalton Henry, Wyatt Bailey, and James Lawrence up in district 04 this week. Great group of guys.

Thank you to all the volunteers and donors. Thank you also to Congressman Thomas Massie for everything you have done for this nation, and for giving me this opportunity to serve.
