Sometimes, the future is sitting right beside you. I came across this picture from November 2024, during a Research Methodology Workshop at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, OAU,, Ile-Ife. Sitting beside me was my colleague and friend, @olorunfemi_daniel24 At that moment, we were simply two young scholars sitting in a lecture hall, listening, learning, and trying to make sense of research methodology. But looking at this picture today reminds me of something important about social networks and relationships. We often talk about networking as though it means knowing people “up there” - people who can open doors, recommend us, or give us opportunities. But I have come to understand that connection is much bigger than that. Sometimes, the most valuable connections are the people sitting beside you today. The classmate who is learning with you. The colleague figuring things out alongside you. The friend who is growing in a completely different direction. Because tomorrow, that person may become a president, researcher, professor, entrepreneur, policymaker, industry leader, or prominent voice in their field. And the beauty isn’t necessarily in having someone successful who can “help” you. It is in growing together and watching one another become. Real connection is not only about who you know. It is also about who grows with you, who believes in you, and who you grow alongside. So, value your peers. Build genuine relationships. Celebrate your friends’ progress. Keep in touch. Because sometimes, the person sitting next to you today is part of the story of where you will both be tomorrow. November 2024 → A moment captured. The future → Still unfolding. 🚀 @nsasa_oau #Networking #SocialCapital #ProfessionalDevelopment #Leadership #Friendship Growth Research Academia LinkedInThoughts
