We meet the end of WOMEX 26 in Spain and Sierra Leone had a place at the table. 🇸🇱🎶

Showcases like this are where the global industry decides who matters in music. Bookers, labels, festivals, funders and rights organizations meet to engage on shared stories, clear contacts, and the infrastructure to follow through. When we come as an organized presence, we’re legible. We get the chance to learn where the industry is moving, and bring a clear vision, partnerships, and plans back home to Sierra Leone. 🇸🇱

Here’s the road ahead as we see it:

→ Build the basics at home: rights registration, fair contracts, live venues, and the business skills that let artists earn from their work.

→ Align with where the global industry is moving: touring circuits, sync, collecting societies, co-productions, and the partnerships that open those doors.

→ Treat artistry as a real economic sector, worth investing in, measuring, and protecting, because it already carries our identity and our future.

This is the work SoundWave is taking on and we are grateful to our partners at @womex.expo , including @slim_emcee_ug_the_poet and @idi_reptylemusic and @womex.expo for standing with us. Thank you to the Embassy of Spain in Sierra Leone for your commitment to cultural exchange 🇪🇸🇸🇱, and to all the Salone artists who keep giving us great music to spread to the globe. 🔥🔥

*Sierra Leone has arrived at WOMEX* 🇸🇱🎶
Full post at our website: https://soundwavelive.com/news/womex-26

This week, a five-person delegation from Freetown is in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain — the first formal Sierra Leonean presence at WOMEX, the world music expo that shapes how rights, touring, and funding work for artists everywhere.

At Trade Show stand L14, we’re hosting Listen Forward — an interactive exhibit asking one question: what is music in Africa today telling the world about what comes next? Stop by, pick a theme, and add your answer to the wall.

And this Friday, our CEO joins the Africa Networking Session “The price paid as a cultural practitioner” — on what it takes to make African music work sustainable.
