REAL or AI? 👀

It might look like an AI-generated WWII scene… but almost everything you’re seeing was filmed LIVE with real reenactors, authentic uniforms, equipment and historically accurate weapons.

At WW2 in Focus, we use AI very minimally. Our scenes are primarily created in-camera, with real people and real locations, before being enhanced in post-production. For scenes like this, we use tools such as After Effects and Blender to change backgrounds, add environmental elements and help transform the footage into a more cinematic WWII setting.

The goal is simple: bring history to life while keeping the human element at the heart of what we do.

WW2 Normandy: US Infantry Patrol

US patrols pushed cautiously through the battlefields of WWII, never knowing what they might encounter around the next corner. The landscape was often littered with the remains of fierce fighting — knocked-out German tanks, abandoned vehicles and the scars of artillery and combat showing just how brutal the fighting had been.

For the men on patrol, these destroyed tanks were more than just wreckage. They were a constant reminder of the danger surrounding them and the battles that had already taken place. Captured by the Enemy: WW2 POW Moment

Being captured by the enemy during the Second World War could change everything in an instant. Soldiers could be taken prisoner after being surrounded, wounded, forced to surrender, or simply running out of ammunition and having no way to continue the fight. For many, capture meant uncertainty about what would happen next.

The experiences of POWs varied enormously depending on where they were captured and who held them. Some endured years of captivity, forced labour, hunger and harsh conditions, while others were treated according to the rules of war and eventually returned home. For millions of men, becoming a prisoner of war was a terrifying chapter that could last long after the fighting had ended.

In Normandy, 1944, advancing against a well-positioned German machine gun could be one of the most dangerous challenges facing Allied infantry. The MG42 was feared for its extremely high rate of fire, capable of putting out hundreds of rounds per minute and creating a devastating wall of fire. For soldiers moving across open ground, getting past an MG42 position could be incredibly difficult and dangerous.

This short sequence recreates the intensity of those encounters and gives a glimpse into the brutal reality faced by infantrymen during the Normandy campaign. HELL IN NORMANDY.

Summer 1944. Allied forces had broken into Normandy, but the fighting was far from over. Across the fields, villages and dense hedgerows of France, US troops faced fierce resistance from German forces determined to slow the Allied advance.

The Normandy campaign was some of the most intense fighting of the Second World War. Every hedgerow could hide an enemy, every road could become a battlefield, and even small advances could come at a heavy cost.

This footage is part of a WWII short film created by WW2 in Focus, recreating the intensity and atmosphere of the fighting in Normandy in 1944.
