thank u so much to @decolonisefest for inviting me to play this year’s launch party at my second home @piehousecoop ❤️

this was such a special gig for me

as a trans rapper with a mess of different influences, I’ve always struggled to find a ‘scene’ that suits me. UK rap spaces tend to avoid acknowledging my existence, given my transness as well as my confrontational, unapologetic performance style, in a scene rife with toxic masculinity that increasingly rewards apathy, detachment and conformity

meanwhile, in queer and experimental electronic scenes, where trans women often thrive, I find myself judged more on production, abstraction and aesthetic expectations than on the vocal performance, lyricism and storytelling I foreground in my music. the skills I’ve spent years developing often feel overlooked and underappreciated

this was the first London gig where I finally felt I’d found my people. performing for a largely POC, explicitly punk crowd that foregrounds politics, alongside only trans women of colour (big up @ish99ni and @floralis_lc ), I felt truly valued for the things I care most about in my art

I love when audiences listen to my words and engage with the narratives and worlds I build onstage. for me, the most important thing about art is the relationship between artist and audience

art is nothing without the people who appreciate it. u are nothing without those who support you, nothing without your community.

this was the best show I’ve done so far, and a reminder that I was right to keep fighting

thank u to my day 1 @amberrmezzo for bringing your generational performance skills to the opening monologue, @nationalpopcornday for incredible VJ work that elevated the worldbuilding of my set, and my manager @sayhellototravis for your unwavering support over the years.

and thank u to everyone in that room. i do it all for you.

punk is not dead, it is Decolonise Fest <3

iconic photography by @blaceyphoto and edited by @richard.mukuze, these pics will one day end up in a book im willing to put money on that

A mother gives without expecting anything in return. She sacrifices her time, her comfort, and often her own dreams so that her children can thrive. She celebrates every success as if it were her own and carries every pain as though it belongs to her.
