We went to Aabey to discover Beit Abey, but the pleasure of the visit was as much about Hania and Naji Boustany as the beautiful houses they have brought back to life. Their love of heritage, art and sharing it all with others made this a wonderfully personal encounter.

Hania and Naji Boustany are one of the loveliest couples you could meet. They welcomed us into their summer retreat in Aabey, a village whose rich history, beautiful landscape and remarkable old houses deserve a visit of their own.

A passionate lover of heritage, Naji restored two historic mansions with origins dating back to the 16th century, giving them a renewed place in village life. One became the couple’s summer home; the other, a charming guesthouse where visitors and friends can share their affection for this place.

The architecture invites you to slow down and notice: thick stone walls, vaulted ceilings, pointed doorways and graceful triple arched windows opening onto wooden balconies. Inside, the old stone gives the rooms a warmth that Hania has made unmistakably her own.

Her passion for art, decorative objects and interior design is present in every room. Carefully chosen furniture, colourful ceramics, paintings, patterned fabrics and playful accessories bring personality to the historic spaces. A dressmaker’s mannequin wearing a hat, a collection of green vessels, pink chairs beside a courtyard table: each detail reveals an eye for beauty and a willingness to have fun with it.

And then there was lunch. Beneath a magnificent stone vault, a long table dressed with botanical prints, flowers, candles and beautifully arranged place settings awaited us. Hania’s attention to detail extended naturally from the rooms to the table, and from the table to the way we were looked after.

Thank you, Hania and Naji, for an unforgettable day, a wonderful lunch and the pleasure of your company. You opened your doors with such warmth that, almost immediately, we felt at home.

What began as a walk through Downtown Beirut became something far greater.

Thirty curious minds, countless conversations, forgotten stories brought back to life, remarkable architecture rediscovered, and a community brought together by a shared passion for this city.

The Beirut Narrative has never been about simply looking at buildings. It is about understanding the people, the ideas and the history that continue to shape Beirut, one conversation at a time.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us, asked questions, shared memories and made this first edition such a memorable experience.

Special thanks to architect Omar Harb for generously sharing his knowledge throughout the walk, to Tarek Kawa for an inspiring conversation that concluded the day, to Elie Keissy, Executive Producer and Co-Founder of Wild Cherry Productions, to Pierre Vincent Firman for beautifully capturing the event behind the camera, to Solange Trak, and to the entire District 7 team for their warm hospitality and unwavering support.

This is only the beginning.

🎥 A reel capturing the highlights of the day will be out very soon. Stay tuned.
