It was good while it lasted…

In a recent LinkedIn post, Larry Dominique, the head of Alfa Romeo & Fiat for North America, announced the imminent withdrawal of the Quadrifoglio versions of both Giulia and Stelvio from the United States and Canadian markets, as Alfa Romeo’s electrification looms ever closer. Customers will be able to order the 505 HP North American spec Quadrifoglios until the end of April, while the last examples bound to cross the Atlantic are expected to leave the Cassino plant by the end of June.
With more than a century’s worth of glorious history, this obviously can’t be the end of the road for the luckiest badge in the world, but rather the closing of an important chapter. Maybe the future generation of Stelvio and Giulia will get their own Quadrifoglio electric versions, which will absolutely break the power barriers seen in regular sedans and SUVs, with Imparato hinting in a recent interview that it wouldn’t be impossible for Alfa’s performance models to flirt with the 1000 HP number.
Furthermore, maybe this 2.9 V6-Biturbo petrol engine will survive in special and limited production cars, the likes of the new 33 Stradale.
What we’re sure of now is that whoever is in the lucky position to be able to order a Giulia or a Stelvio Quadrifoglio in North America should do it urgently. This combination of a dedicated platform, developed from the ground up, benefiting from a technological tour de force and resulting in a visceral, unashamedly petrol-powered Italian driving machine, will probably never be repeated in the automotive industry.
So we’re saying now goodbye to the Quadrifoglio as we know and love it today… but here’s to the next 100 years! 🍀
