For this year’s @kunstrasenturnier I made the trikot and a captain’s bind for Team Hamburg. We had already so much fun months beforehand, during our weekly training sessions where those wonderful portraits of @aimiliatheofilopoulos were taken – the ones that later ended up on our Panini stickers, which @annsophie.krueger conjured up.
I want to thank @victoria.tgb , @vinouuus & @360rpm for constant feedback and help 🩵
And last but not least thank you to @hfbkhamburg and @tobiaszielony for the generous financial support. I couldn’t have happened without this support.
We’re looking forward to Amsterdam next year.⚽️💨🎽🏋🏻‍♀️

I have come to understand over the years that re-re is an artistic practice and a quiet form of protest. A universe that respects the hand. The hands that once made a garment. It's a form of expression within boundaries.

@omidorbit is holding his camera. @aimiliatheofilopoulos is behind the camera.

A trace of a gesture. A quiet desire to leave, even when welcomed to stay.

Drawing from childhood memories, this work explores belonging, estrangement, and the unspoken language between mother and child. A photograph milled into transparent acrylic appears almost absent, present only as a fragile trace, like memory itself.

Acrylic glass, wood, 80 × 120 cm, 2026.

Omid Arabbay is a Hamburg-based artist with roots in Afghanistan, whose multidisciplinary practice explores identity, belonging, displacement, and cultural hybridity.
