Calling all arts and culture access workers in NYC! Please take this brief survey for Cultural Accessibility NYC (CANYC).

Do you work in any arts and culture organization in NYC? Does your work involve accessibility in any way? If so, please participate in Cultural Accessibility NYC’s Survey to help establish a baseline of data to inform what can be done to advance disability equity across NYC’s arts and culture sector. Visit the LINK IN BIO to participate by October 15th.

ID: A bright blue flyer depicts the words “Calling all arts and culture access workers! Please take this brief survey for Cultural Accessibility NYC (CANYC). Your participation will help establish a sector, wide baseline of data on accessibility practices and barriers in NYC arts and culture organizations. Link in Bio” There are also two megaphones on the flyer.

Today I’m celebrating another year lived and looking ahead to a new year with a very big goal to achieve.

For my birthday, I want to share something very personal that I hope will become an important part of the future of Storm King Theater.

I am launching the NICO Initiative, named after my son, Nico.

The mission is simple: create more opportunities for people who may experience barriers to participating in theater, film and community experiences in traditional ways, while celebrating the talents of people of all abilities.

The NICO Initiative is for everyone.

Accessibility and inclusion are not limited to people with a diagnosis, disability or label. Some people may simply benefit from smaller audiences, sensory considerations, greater flexibility, additional accommodations or another way to experience something.

Creating more ways for people to participate doesn’t exclude anyone. It creates more opportunities for everyone.

Taking on Storm King Theater brings me so much joy, but there is also a piece of my heart that feels sadness knowing that unless I intentionally create opportunities for him, my own son may not experience everything we are doing in the same way others will.

I want to change that.

Through the NICO Initiative, we plan to continue our Sensitive Santa tradition, offer sensory friendly movies and other accessible programming, and bring at least one major inclusive experience to the theater each year.

For our first year, my hope is to bring @omniumcircus to Storm King Theater this spring for a three day experience offered free to our community.

My goal is to raise $40,000 for the NICO Initiative this year.

For my birthday, I’m asking for your support. If you are able, please consider making a donation. Every donation made to our @cfosrny fund through the end of the month will support NICO Initiative programming.

For me, there is no greater motivation than sharing everything we are doing at Storm King Theater with the most important person in my life… my son.

Thank you for supporting a place where everyone truly belongs.

Donation link + more about the NICO Initiative + Omnium Circus are linked in our bio.
