Four weeks of summer camp… thank you @chessinslums for the amazing experience!

Nathan didn’t just leave the chess summer camp with two medals from the final tournament - 🥇 Gold in Mental Maths and 🥈 Silver in Chess - he also got to tick off his last year Christmas wish: playing with the one and only @tunde_onakoya 😁(Remember the video?)

But honestly, one of my biggest wins this summer wasn’t just the medals and strategically making sure his Christmas wish came through 😁

It was watching my boy grow a little more independent, confident and adventurous… while I learned to let go a little. 🥹 because this was officially the longest he’s ever been away from me.

And a very special shoutout to Nathan’s Grandma 👏🏽❤️
Because camp was close to her, she became Nathan’s summer-break MVP, handling care, drop offs and pick ups.

Here’s to the village that helps us raise our amazing little humans. ❤️

Swipe, swipe… because this mum is definitely keeping these memories! 🥰♟️🏅

Hello 🇧🇯

Most people drive through Benin Republic on their way to somewhere else but I think this small West African country deserves a lot more attention!

Here are 10 fun things I learnt:

1️⃣ Benin is considered the birthplace of Vodun (Voodoo), a traditional religion that is still widely practiced and officially recognized.

2️⃣ The official language is French, but many local languages are spoken across the country.

3️⃣ Benin was once home to the powerful Kingdom of Dahomey, one of Africa’s most fascinating pre-colonial kingdoms.

4️⃣ Cotonou is the largest city and economic hub, but Porto-Novo is actually the official capital.

5️⃣ Benin has one of the largest open-air markets in West Africa, Dantokpa Market.

6️⃣ Ganvié is a floating village often called the “Venice of Africa.”

7️⃣ The country has beautiful beaches stretching along the Atlantic coast.

8️⃣ The CFA Franc is the currency.

9️⃣ Benin shares borders with Nigeria, Togo, Burkina Faso, and Niger, making it a crossroads of different cultures.

🔟 Despite being relatively small, Benin has a rich history that played a major role in shaping West Africa.

I feel like Benin is one of those countries that doesn’t always make people’s travel bucket lists but maybe it should. 🇧🇯

Have you ever visited Benin Republic? If yes, what’s one thing you loved about it?

Yesterday was Day 2 in Ghana 🇬🇭 and it felt like the perfect balance of exploration and enjoyment.

From exploring Accra Mall, to having fun at @drcghana , to discovering local dishes in East Legon, I tasted Banku and also fufu & light soup.

If Day 1 was about history, Day 2 was about experiencing the city.

Thank you, Ghana. You were equal parts fun and fascinating.

What’s the first thing you look for when visiting a new country/area: the food, the history, the people, or the attractions? 👇🏾

Ghana 🇬🇭

Day 1 in Ghana and I feel this country honestly deserves 10 different posts of its own. I still have more to post to highlight some important places we visited.

I had seen pictures of Ghana before, but this trip made me feel the history behind the country in a way I never expected.

I expected to learn something at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial and Osu Castle. I didn’t expect to leave with thoughts that challenged what I thought I knew about Africa, freedom, identity, and our shared history.

Hearing the stories behind Pan-Africanism, independence, slavery, resistance, and identity in real places, not just online or in books, hits differently.

It made me realize how much of African history many of us were never taught deeply enough. And now I find myself wanting to learn more, read more, understand more.

Ghana has definitely earned a return visit from me with my son.

Do you think enough African history is being taught in our schools today?

Quick stop 🇹🇬

Country number 3 I’ve visited in Africa so far:
Nigeria 🇳🇬
Morocco 🇲🇦 (@nutrition4kids_ng GITEX exhibition in 2024)
Togo 🇹🇬

…with 2 more countries on this trip to make it 5.

Africa is beautiful.
And I think there’s something powerful about exploring the continent as Africans ourselves, seeing the similarities, the differences, not through borrowed narratives, but through our own eyes.

Every country teaches you something new about people, culture, life… and maybe you get to even understand yourself a little more too as a black woman.

Have you ever traveled within Africa? Which is your favorite African country so far?

Big Win 🔥

@nutrition4kids_ng has officially been selected as a Top 20 Finalist for the 2026 @greyfinance UpGreyed Her Grant Initiative 🎉

What started as a mission to help families make better child nutrition decisions has now impacted over 15,000 families through nutrition education, support, and access to vetted nutritious food options.

This recognition means so much because childhood malnutrition is still one of Africa’s biggest silent crises, affecting millions of children in their most important developmental years.

Grateful for every family, partner, supporter, and community member on this journey ❤️

Next stop: the elevator pitch round 🔥

And yes… We’ll need your support! For now celebrate with us 🥳
