**FIRST SHOW COMING UP? 👀**

Show day has a way of revealing exactly what you forgot to pack.

We pulled together some of our favorite **first-show must-haves** for color guard and marching band performers, staff, and families—gear that helps with everything from getting equipment ready to keeping uniforms, shoes, and accessories organized.

Featured in our checklist:

• **Spectrum Wrap** — quick peel-and-stick color for your flagpoles
• **Mix n Max Bag** — duffle bag that converts into a full-length garment bag
• **Quiet Spin Anchor System** — ditch the electrical tape and help stop noisy flagpole bolts
• **Five6 Seven8 Gloves** — grip, support, and protection for your hands
• **Ever-Jazz Performance Shoes** — lightweight performance shoes for indoor and outdoor use
• **Capezio Convertible Body Tight** — because undergarments are one of the easiest things to forget
• **Capezio Bun Builder** — for quick, clean show-day hair
• **Guard Max Bag LITE** — carry up to four 6’ poles with flags in one lightweight bag

And because show day isn’t only about equipment, we added a few fun extras to the collection too:

**“It’s a Band Thing” Show Day Tee**
**Marching Band Member Nutritional Facts Tee**
**Band Nerd T-Shirt**

Plus, don’t forget the little emergency items that someone always needs five minutes before warm-up: **first aid supplies, blister care, zip ties, Sharpies, electrolytes, portable chargers, and more.**

When the judge says “we need more variety,” what does that actually mean?

Dalton breaks it down through the triad:

Form.
Body.
Equipment.

If your show leans too hard on one of those for too long, the audience can start to check out — even if the work is technically strong. Variety is not always about adding harder choreography. Sometimes it is about changing the flavor.

Can the form shift?
Can the body layer change?
Can the equipment phrase create a different texture?
Can the transition feel different than the one before it?

That is where design analysis becomes practical.

“Just smile” is not a performance strategy.

When Jordan asks how to help beginner performers commit to the show instead of giving full deer-in-the-headlights energy, Nicole breaks it down in a way every color guard, winter guard, and marching band instructor can use:

Start with what the music feels like.
Give performers a character.
Let them build a backstory.
Help them understand that performance is more than a face — it is ownership.

Because confident performers are not created by yelling “perform more” from the sideline. Shocking. Revolutionary. Someone alert the judges.

If you’ve ever read the competitive sheets and thought, “I get the words… but not the translation,” you’re not alone.

Nicole + Dalton are mentoring 2–3 people on Design Analysis — how to interpret the sheets, connect feedback to what’s happening on the floor/field, and turn it into practical rehearsal priorities.

We’ll record the sessions and pull short clips to share on Instagram and YouTube so more instructors and staff can learn from the same process.

If you’re a new instructor, designer, band director, or percussion staff member and want to be considered, DM us. Tell us:
• your role + circuit/class
• what you’re stuck on
• what kind of feedback you keep seeing (or want to understand)
