The Fortune ~ Panel III: Whale’s Song 🥀🔥

“The Fortune” triptych explores humanity’s fraught relationship with mother nature through the lens of whaling—a brutal tradition that serves as a metaphor for mankind’s attempts to dominate the natural world. The poetry examines the legacy of exploitation, the yearning for connection, and the spiritual resonance found in nature’s mysteries. From the harpooner’s relentless pursuit of power to the whaler’s longing for home, from the haunting song of the whales to the quiet wisdom of patience.

“We’re all riding storms,
They ebb and flow and fall.
Water’s the womb,
From where we all came
And return at the end of the day.

In between, it’s all a fight—
Until the coast, until the night.
Pages of wisdom drown in courage most of all,
Floating as dreams unto dusk,
Returning to the water where we floated first.

The men are the engine,
Burning through the sea,
Burning through the past,
Burning through songs the whales sang last.

Something ancient pulls us where we are,
Floating on machines of our making.
What the generations said was for the taking
Becomes the hum of a hymn in the waves,
A song that carries us forward
And leaves our bodies drifting in its wake.

Our minds leave this dream
For another time, another place,
A supper of the spirit,
A summer’s day.

We navigate the maritime,
The white birds on the waves.
The furthest star in the sky
Is but falling light on a strangest shore,
A reflection cast by a song from before.

And I, for one, will not comply,
For by the time I reach, or it sees me,
This fleeting life will pass us by,
And the lights will fade completely.

The dimming stars pierce the sky,
Like pinpricks in a darkened tapestry,
A veil stretched between the heavens and us,
Threaded with light that sings, not speaks.

And behind that veil, an eternal shine,
Forever distant, forever divine—
A song that binds the sea and sky,
We are but one piece in its endless design.”

GM ~ The Fortune: Panel II 🥀🔥

“I have to know the meaning of courage now,
That I once knew home, gives me hope,
I stand firm in the sand as waves surround,
Beyond each measured moment in this ocean,
I rally in the wash, this life’s emotion.
I hear on the wind its sound,
The sound of all the world calling for our victory,
My soul bleeds for home,
That home I know I’ve left its shore,
This new world in our time is built by marches of war,
I am your soldier, I will traverse the roughest tides and prevail the gathering storms,

If it means I make the ocean my home,
My brothers here have such courage for our country,
That we course the shores to destroy tyranny.
And wage the empire on the mast,
For all the world the rocking seas are where this wind will take us,
We know that,
The shape, the ship, the shore,
The army, the country,
Our waves are crashing on the shores of tyranny,
There can only be victory,

Before I left my father said to me;
“Go out to the world & you will learn it’s pain,
You will meet many people, & at first it’ll feel strange,
Until you realize we are all one,
we see, we hear, we feel much the same,
When this you see, at last you will be seen,
Harness that pain, for your own coming into being.”

Cinematography by @victoria_west_portrait & @violetbond for their epic cinematography

“Laurence Fuller’s The Fortune stands as a profound and evocative meditation on humanity’s complex and often fraught relationship with the natural world.
Premiering as a cinematic poetry immersive exhibition during Miami Art Week, this collection transcends the boundaries of traditional art forms, blending poetic narration, cutting-edge AI animation, and timeless themes.
Rooted in Fuller’s award-winning novella, the work unravels in four acts, each offering a poignant reflection on the interplay between tradition, exploitation, spiritual connection, and the eternal rhythm of life.
At its core, The Fortune uses the brutal tradition of whaling as a metaphor to explore mankind’s relentless pursuit of dominance over nature, while simultaneously yearning for harmony within it.” ~ Carlo Borloni

Patience Is A Kiss 🥀🔥 laurencefuller.art/the-fortune

Patience Is a Kiss is part of The Fortune series, exhibiting during Miami Art Week, December 2024 at @scopeartshow with @superchiefgallerynft & @m2_miami with @nolchashows immersive exhibition. It merges poetic narration, evocative imagery, and profound themes, exploring the balance of time, the urgency of love, and the mystery of destiny. Each frame is a verse, each movement a metaphor, inviting the viewer to step into the quiet storm of reflection and transformation. Textures of paint modeled on @stephaniefullerartist paintings.

“I sailed into the night, through the luminous mist,
All the world was quiet, and dreaming in bliss,
Before the day of the dead and the week of reveling trysts,
I sailed to the edge of the sea,
The sand like the soft remnants of unformed pearls,
Or like stars rolling along the milky way’s verse,
I felt I stood on the world’s doorstep,
In the weeks before it all changed,
Time was falling like Autumn leaves in decay,
Life hangs on the balance of our next breathe,
And paradise speaks from within:
“Patience is a kiss.”

I wrote my novel on scrolls and charcoal,
By the glow of the closest star,
A turbulence in the novel’s name,
“I’m swimming through wonders of the day”
The first chapter read like this;

“Never wait for a time when love is convenient,
When it tells us that it’s time has come.
For our ideals do not conspire around like in books and tales,
Love is found by our doing the things to match our destiny,
And that which is destined by our thoughts,
By the novels of our memories,
And the giant we have faught.”
