The new issue of The Wire is out today, as awesome as ever!

In this issue, I had the great pleasure of interviewing Bruno Silva, whose Ondness and Serpente records are some of my favourite listening of recent years.

I also wrote an essay on the metal subculture in 2026 and reviewed new albums by BBBBBBB 🥵 and Jesse Draxler 🖤.

My eternal gratitude goes to Bariann Tuite Smith of @fiadhproductions, Rylan Gleave of @allmenuntome, Ayloss (Spectral Lore, Auriferous Flame, etc.), and the musicians who chose to remain anonymous. Thank you all for trusting me with your thoughts for the Against The Grain essay, and for everything you do to make the metal scene better.

GAM (dj)

Album of the Day: Ondness - I Can Only Put So Much Into A Song (Discrepant)

Find it in the Monthly Dig - August 2026: https://theatticmag.com/news/2538/the-monthly-dig-_-august-2026.html

Bruno Silva returns under his Ondness moniker for his most personal album yet. Recorded as an homage, a reference map, and a temporal slippage back to a transformative period of Bruno Silva's life, I Can Only Put So Much Into a Song conjures the threshold between his shoegaze-leaning teen years and a young adulthood defined by profound sonic landmarks.

Another trip around the sun and another We Know Nonsense show is now up in the East Village Radio archive. I’ve already had at least 37 birthdays in this life and only two shows per month, so let’s focus on what’s happening in the latest instalment.

I’m starting with the new release from Teresa Riemann, of whom I’ve been a big devotee since her Fort Evil Fruit release. Here’s another drum/voice blast, this time on 577 Records. And it’s simply excellent.

A good half of the show comes from female artists: 张安定, Zafka, NEKRA, Sandy Winiferová, Barbara Ellison, Ondness, Kill Alters, sta dormida, Diane Barbé, Troth, Nneka Cummins and Brigitte Fontaine. Some are sad, some loud, some quiet, some noisy, some radical, some simple, all of them beautiful.

There’s also a good portion of very talented boys making sounds. Pretty good, too.
