POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This is the week in Pigeon Forge TN for something called National Quartet Convention. It’s the biggest week of the year for fans and the artists of Southern Gospel Music. I usually try and go over for at least one day of it each year and yesterday was the day. It’s a great way to see a lot of good friends all in one place.

Although I normally go alone, my daughter Allison decided to go with me this time. After having lunch with some of our closest friends, we decided to go walk through the new Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame and Museum that opened Monday of this week. It was pretty fascinating to see all the plaques on the wall of so many people I have been blessed to work with through the years.

I pointed to one of them of a man named Lloyd Orrell and told her how he was a promoter of Gospel Music concerts in Michigan where I grew up. I told her how even though we didn’t have a lot of money, my parents found a way to take us as kids to those concerts. It was a sacrifice on their part that instilled a love for the music in me that literally changed the course of my life.

While we were talking we walked around the corner where some more display cases were and she said, “Well, there you are.” I looked down and there was an old Speer Family record with my picture down in the lower left corner of the cover. I was not expecting that at all and it tore me up pretty good. It wasn’t a “look at me” moment, but rather a “my dad would have loved this” moment. It’s all about perspective.

The evening was amazing and as we made the three-hour drive back home last night, I couldn’t stop thinking about the investment of love and belief my parents made in me. I was more than a little thankful to get to spend the day sharing some of that same love for music with one of mine.

As a kid growing up in Michigan, it was a big deal every month when the Singing News arrived in the mail. I was a fan of the music and looked forward to reading the articles each month about my musical heroes. In April of 1981, when the Speers were featured on the cover, it was one of those sweet mile markers for my family and me. (Think Dr. Hook - Cover of the Rolling Stone).

I was going through some files this week and ran across that issue. I opened it up and smiled as I read it. Every page provided a unique timestamp. One of the articles announced that Bill Gaither was starting a new quartet called The New Gaither Vocal Band. Another was a spotlight on a young contemporary artist trying to balance the demands of concerts and college. Her name was Amy Grant.

Joel Hemphill wrote the #1 song that month. I was a huge fan of his songwriting back then, and his songs still hold up well today.

So why would I choose to post about a newspaper that is 40 years old?

I'll let you know in the following post.

Hello beauties! Welcome. For all of you mature ladies (like me) my page is talking to you! 👏🏻🎉 I was blessed growing up with two amazing women whose influence motivated and inspired me to create something that I could pass along to all of you. 😘😍 “Two Margarets” on Facebook and @twomargaretsbeauty on Instagram is my business in-the-making. I’m building my website and blog where I will be offering tips via blog, photos, and videos to mature women, on beauty, skincare, fashion and even a few interior design ideas I’ve learned along the way. 🥿👜 Here’s my quick story... My grandmothers had very different backgrounds, yet they both carried a unique sense of style. I was very close to them and their influence carried over to me. And it just so happens they shared the same name - Margaret! 💕

Have you ever experienced this: you walk into a Nordstrom or Ulta and you’re approached by a bubbly 20 something girl who promptly sits you in a chair while she proceeds to put makeup on you and when she finishes you look in the mirror aghast at how wrong this “look” is for you? 😲😳 You wanted to be pleased with the results, but you’re not... Yet, you purchased the items she recommended anyway, because you felt guilty that she just spent 20 minutes painting your face to look just like hers? 😬😩 Trust me, I’ve been there. The reason the “look” isn’t right for you is because you’re old enough to be her - OLDER SISTER - and your skin and face require something else entirely. 😉💄 I want to help you. I WAS you! I’m taking what I’ve learned from my background as a licensed esthetician with years of experience working with clients on their skin and previously working in the fashion and interior design fields. And my desire to help women just like you all started with the love and tips imparted to me by my two grandmothers. ❤️❤️ So, come on board @twomargaretsbeauty FB: Two Margarets. You’ll be just in time for some fantastic beauty ideas for the holidays. 🙌🏻😁 My first tip: *You might want to dump those mean friends, first. 😉👋🏻 #beauty

I found a quote from @warrenbuffetthq that really caught my attention. “You will continue to suffer if you have an emotional reaction to everything that is said to you. True power is sitting back and observing things with logic. True power is restraint. If words control you that means that everyone else can control you. Breathe and allow things to pass.” This struck me as entirely relevant to something I am going through in my life at the moment. Because there are things happening that are out of my control.
And my tendency is to go into protective mode. I’ve always been one to defend my boundaries. Make no mistake: I am fierce.
But, I’m not so sure my best response right now isn’t just to sit back, let go and let God. Embrace the true power!
I’m proud to say that I know some great things are about to take place in my life. God knows the dreams in my heart. He put them there! So, I’m going to do some deep breathing and let that negativity just pass on through... I’ll be waiting on the other side - fully embraced by God - ready to enjoy my dreams. 🌿🌷 #positivethinking
