The work of social change asks a great deal of the people who do it. How do you make space to resource yourself along the way?

Changemakers 2026 is a six-week virtual course for nonprofit agents of change and social impact leaders. Grounded in Garrison Institute’s Contemplative-Based Resilience framework, it explores the ABCs of resilience: Awareness, Balance, and Connection.

Each week brings guided practices, practical tools, and conversation with peers who understand the realities of this work. Faculty includes Sharon Salzberg, Kaira Jewel Lingo, Oneika Mays, Reggie Hubbard, and Holistic Life Foundation co-founders Ali Smith, Atman Smith, and Andres Gonzalez, alongside Garrison’s CBR teaching faculty.

Oneika Mays is a yoga and meditation teacher, author, and former Mindfulness Coach at Rikers Island Correctional Facility, where she taught for over a decade. Her debut book Sit With Me: A No-BS Journey to Mindfulness and Meditation (HarperOne, March 2026) explores metta practice as a tool for personal and collective liberation. With deep roots in Buddhist and yogic teachings, Oneika specializes in making mindfulness accessible to marginalized and excluded communities.

I Love the way black women show up for each other!

A couple of weeks ago I attended an intimate gathering to hear my girl talk about her book.

Sit With Me, by Oneika Mays is a memoir about the author's experience teaching yoga and meditation at Rieker's Island prison.

It is a beautiful story of the soul's journey of self reflection and the lessons learned along the way.

This is a retreat for queer cultural workers, scholars, artists, organizers, fundraisers, nurses, librarians, lawyers-built with the recognition of how much you are doing and holding within our queer community right now. This is an expression of gratitude, and an invitation for you to rest, even for a couple of days. Be fed. Put away your phone with the endless notifications of what and who needs tending to. You need tending to. In order to get through this political moment with some part of our hearts, bodies, and communities intact, each of us need to take a turn resting. And now it’s your turn.

This retreat can hold 25 folks, and we want to fill it.
