What an honour to lead @the_snjo Youth Ensemble in this project w @jalcnyc & @edintfest. The festival launch concert ft. @wyntonmarsalis’s jazz symphony “All Rise”, performed by Jazz at Lincoln Centre Orchestra, @rsnoofficial, Edinburgh Festival Chorus (dir. @jamesgrossmith), & @jmaxsingers, conducted by @james.gaffigan, also featured us pre- and post-show, inc a New Orleans Second Line parade in the @usherhall auditorium.

Some thank yous:
- @nickybenedettiofficial, Festival Director of EIF, for bringing a world-class collection of musicians together here in Scotland, and for inviting us to join.
- Wynton, for writing and performing an epic, joyful and affecting work, and advocating for and supporting the vibrancy of jazz as a living tradition for decades.
- Jude at SNYJO & Caroline, Hal & Kirsty at EIF for organising a hugely complex event.
- All of the performers above, for moving and inspiring our young musicians and myself with your excellence and spirit.

A special thank you to six JALC musicians whom we had the pleasure and privilege of being joined by in our performances:

Domo Branch 🥁
Summer Camargo 🎺
Sam Chess,
Ricky “Dirty Red” Gordon 🥁(washboard)
Anthony Hervey 🎺
Paloma Ximena 🎷(clarinet)

You had just flown in but were instantly sharing great musical insights with the SNYJO musicians and helping us all raise our game. Even though we had only a brief time to work together, I know that it will have a long-lasting inspirational impact for all of us at SNYJO. Thank you each and every one for your musicianship and generosity of spirit!

Most of all, well done to the young musicians of SNYJO. Three weeks ago, most hadn't played New Orleans Second Line rep before, but learned seven tunes by heart, developed arrangements collaboratively, absorbed loads of details about the style, and performed it in front of thousands. Look out for much fine music to come from:

Trombones: Freddie Cobb, Aaron Singh
🎺 Trumpets: Leo Brychta, Scott Davidson, Lucy Douglas
🎷 Saxophones: Jess Koffie, Gerard O’Neil, Lucas Plowman, Jacob Swaffer
🥁 Drums & Percussion: Carrick Lindsay, Finlay Morgan, Noah Skinner-Legowski
🎻 Bass & Sousaphone: Owen Campbell, Charlie Clark

‘You just gotta be Thankful’ I am after an extraordinary night performing at @pizzaexpresslive with @nimbus_sextet and such a beautiful group of talented musicians/singers. The reinventing of @massiveattackofficial music was refreshing.
Thank You @itisjoenichols for inviting me into this project. 🙏🏽
