Designed and built @y.bails a modern daybed as an early Christmas present. More so, so I had something comfortable to sleep on while I was visiting for Thanksgiving. It’s all plywood construction with slats from IKEA and a solid ash nosing. I designed it around the mattress that he already had. The last slide shows the inspirations he sent over to loosely give me an idea of the style he was after. I’ll have him take some finished photos when he gets a cover and pillows on it. I’m really happy with how it turned out, going from CAD to reality.

THESIS THURSDAY! Through the remaining Thursdays of July, we will be highlighting a Thesis student from our current Thesis 2022 exhibition. This week, we are taking a look at Bailey Fox's work as he creates artificial and simulated landscapes to represent the role, formation, and evolution of human memory in his series "Transcendental View." Bailey states:

.

"It is not fully understood how the brain works, but what is becoming increasingly clear to scientists is that memories are dynamic. When recalling memory, the brain actively recreates it. The yellow of a flower might gradually fade in memory as other aspects of the memory like scent or texture raise in importance. The brain must filter out the noise of every experience to create memories. Each time a memory is recalled it changes and breaks down the original truth experience. As I reminisce, I am presented with nothing more than indistinct images that disappear when I try to examine more closely.

Every image from Transcendental View has been fabricated by a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN). This form of artificial intelligence has studied hundreds of landscape photographs which I made, and returned a set of images based on what it thinks my photographs look like. I have complete creative control over curation of what AI images are shown. The results are recognizable, but upon further inspection, they feel slightly off. These landscapes are slightly misremembered, as if they are produced from their own independent reality. These AI images hold no stories about the journey, the smell of the grass, the sounds of the wind, or the people I was with. The GAN mirrors the human brain process recreating and updating memories, revealing that the difference between the real and simulation is unclear."

.

This series of images is currently on display as part of the Thesis & Departures show, which is on exhibit through July 30, 2022. This exhibition will close soon, so please stop by soon to see it before it's gone! Green and gold foliage set against a blue sky, with heavy artifacting and grain.

Funny that a week prior to these photos being taken, this bike was in pieces and no where close to running. @y.bails needed another subject for his final critique, so I thrashed until 2 am for 3.5 days after work, leading up to Thanksgiving, to completely rebuild the engine and get it back on the bike so I could haul it down to Florida. After seeing these, completely worth it if you ask me!
