During Geneva Watch Days, I had the opportunity to preview the new @hublot Classic Fusion Balloon Dog by Jeff Koons and a seeing it in the metal reveals a 42mm sculpture of inflated geometries that genuinely mimic air pressure.

The polished red anodized aluminum case is exceptionally light yet impactful at 11mm thick. Its vibrant, saturated red hue perfectly replicates the mirror-polished finish of Koons’ iconic monumental artwork. The sapphire crystal is distinctly raised and domed, matching the curved H-shaped titanium screws and the convex, puffy layout of the red dial. At 10:30, a quirky red rubber balloon tail protrudes from the case, while the crown mimics a rubber-molded inflation valve.

Reading the time is a unique experience. The rhodium-plated hands and indexes are packed with 3D white Super-LumiNova, popping brilliantly against the red background. My favorite details are the silver-powdered Jeff Koons signature at 6 o’clock and the seconds hand, which features a miniature bas-relief balloon dog counterweight.

Flipping the watch over reveals the HUB1710 self-winding movement through the sapphire caseback. Hublot even customized the tungsten oscillating weight with a rounded, voluminous form to echo the watch’s exterior theme. On the wrist, the red rubber base strap with a debossed metallic red leather insert feels padded and comfortable, securing via an inflated-design deployant buckle. Limited to 200 pieces and priced at 25,100 USD, this feels less like a traditional timepiece and more like a piece of wearable contemporary art.

I just unboxed the brand new @grandeur Strange Quartz collection and my mind is officially blown. I managed to secure four distinct dial variants: the royal deep purple, the warm glowing copper, the vivid punchy turquoise, and the soft sophisticated pink. Handling them all side by side in person reveals just how wild this new release really is.

If you are unfamiliar with Grandeur’s signature Strange line, it takes heavy design inspiration from Salvador Dali with an asymmetric, melting case profile. It looks and feels like wearable fine art. While previous editions from the microbrand were strictly mechanical, this new quartz generation introduces a computer-chip controlled quartz module that brings absolute, grab-and-go precision.

The craziest part is that they kept the signature jump hour complication layout intact. The minutes sweep normally across the dial, but the hour hand snaps instantly to non-sequential numbers scattered in random order across the face. It feels like watching a magic trick on your wrist every single time the hour flips.

The biggest upgrade you notice immediately in hand is the incredible wearability. Dropping down to an ultra-slim 8mm case thickness makes the asymmetric shape sit completely flat and flush against the wrist. The polished case paired with these genuine stone and sunray dials creates a stunning visual contrast. The purple dial feels mysterious, the copper has a beautiful metallic radiance, the turquoise serves as the perfect vibrant statement piece, and the pink dial offers a surprisingly clean elegance.

Grandeur has built a reputation for making complex high-horology aesthetics accessible, and this quartz drop completely nails it.

After spending time with the @jacobandco Mystery Tourbillon Blue Sapphire, I can confidently say this is one of the most outrageous and technically fascinating watches I’ve ever handled.

The 50mm white gold case is drenched in invisibly set icy blue sapphires and diamonds, creating an almost liquid appearance under direct light. Jacob & Co. uses over 550 gemstones throughout the case and rotating display rings, and in person the effect is hypnotic rather than cluttered.

The centerpiece, though, is the triple-axis flying tourbillon. Watching the twin back-to-back tourbillons rotate in three dimensions feels unreal on the wrist. Unlike many tourbillons that become background decoration after a few minutes, this one completely commands your attention every time you glance down. The movement itself contains 430 components and rotates across multiple axes at astonishing speed, yet it still appears smooth and almost weightless.

Reading the time takes a moment of adjustment because there are no traditional hands. Instead, floating concentric sapphire-set rings indicate the hours and minutes using diamond pointers. Initially it feels theatrical, but after a few minutes the display becomes surprisingly intuitive. The lack of visible support beneath the rings creates the illusion that the indications are suspended in midair, a nod to historic mystery clocks.

Despite its massive dimensions, the curved lugs and alligator strap distribute the weight better than expected. It’s certainly not subtle or practical, and nobody buys this watch for discretion. But that’s precisely the appeal. The Mystery Tourbillon Blue Sapphire exists to showcase what happens when extreme gem-setting and uncompromising watchmaking collide.

What impressed me most is that beneath all the extravagance lies genuine horological innovation. Many ultra-luxury watches rely purely on excess, but this piece combines engineering, finishing, and visual drama at a level few brands would even attempt.

Holding the @jacobandco Opera Godfather II in person completely shifts your perspective on what high watchmaking can achieve.

Unlike the chaotic dial layouts of its predecessor, this piece showcases a shocking evolution in maturity for the brand. The massive 42 by 44mm rose gold case swaps the old round shape for a highly structured, Art Deco-inspired curved rectangle. On the wrist, the geometric lines and cleaner edges sit with immense presence but feel surprisingly refined and wearable. It demands attention, but it does so with an earned, quiet confidence.

The real magic unfolds when you interact with it. Look at the minimalist black dial, and you are met with a pristine portrait of Marlon Brando as Don Corleone alongside the iconic rose motif. To hide the mechanical complexity is a brilliant creative twist. Activating the pusher at eight o’clock feels like the opening of an opera curtain. The watch features a world-first Duetto d’Opera mechanical double melody music box. With a selector at ten o’clock, you can alternate seamlessly between the haunting Love Theme and the chilling Godfather Waltz.

Flipping the watch over reveals a stunning sapphire window shaped like a piano, exposing a complex pin-studded cylinder and an 18-tooth steel comb. Seeing those tiny pins engage to play the mechanical score—which is engraved right onto the caseback—is pure horological theater. A one-minute flying tourbillon regulates the time, keeping precision flawless while the dual power reserve indicators mimic the office curtains from the film.

Comprising over 510 components, this timepiece does not just pay tribute to cinematic history. It tells a story through mechanical genius. It is the ultimate flex of cinematic and mechanical art.
