POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Throwback to our first Care Fair back in April! We had such a fun community day & raised enough money to make 50 summer weather kits for our unhoused neighbors (with 20+ items in them including food, water, rain ponchos, sunscreen, ice packs, emergency blankets, hygiene items and more) ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

We’re having our second edition (S)care Fair on Saturday Oct 24th, 1-8pm at @anotherworldbk and we’re looking for a couple more vendors who want to bring their goods/services! Entry to the event is free, and it’ll feature the makers’ market, free store, food, pumpkin decorating, costume swap, a photo booth, open mic/story circle and more! 👻 Vendors decide what percentage of their proceeds they’ll contribute & all profits donated will go to making our third round of hygiene/winter weather kits stocked at AW 🎒

If you’re interested the link to apply is in our bio. Please pass along to any friends or community members you think may be interested! 🎃🧡

The sandwich I was working on in The NYT DAILY episode is live on NYT Cooking for your viewing, making and of course eating pleasure.
✨
I imagined I could give mushrooms the hot fried chicken treatment and it worked. It’s an “obnoxious sandwich” with crunchy-meaty mushrooms, tinsels of romaine (thanks Ongii), sliced onion and tomato, and feathered tarragon or dill.
Dig in—reckless abandon is a must, enjoyment a preference.

I’m on THE NYT SUNDAY DAILY!! The story follows my background in food, transition to recipe development, loss, grief, and return to the kitchen.
Thank you to Rachel Abrams and Tina Antolini for the opportunity to share my story. Thanks to Lanna Apisukh for the photo of me in my favourite place and Ongii for testing the mushroom recipe with me!
✨ Much gratitude to SOLANA for this incredible tune. It’s helped to define this new chapter. I’m me just more myself. DIDE!!✨

@anotherworldbk has served as a radical free space for the people in Crown Heights for over a year now. During the past year both our space and the community has grown thanks to everyone who tirelessly helped build this up!

We now have lots of plants (big thanks @livin_nyc_), a fancy big sign (shoutout @onggi_tats), a growing community garden, a radical books library, a free clothing store and food pantry, five issues of our newspaper, two free printers, ongoing events and programming, and tons of amazing community members 🙌

Stop by 629 Nostrand Ave on Wed-Sun 11AM-8PM and sign up to support us continuing to grow the space 👇

First swallow up is ìyán from the West African yam, a magnificently large tuber which grows underground.
✨
The process of turning yam into òkèlè can be exhilarating, and it never fails to fascinate me how the crumbly starch is transformed—with repeated pounding and folding—into something glossy and stretchy.
✨
My adapted recipe for NYT COOKING skips a few steps by puréeing the fresh yam in a blender and is for anyone who enjoys the subtle and mild taste that only fresh yam can provide.

My June column is about the body-odyy-oddiee of drawww soups! I write about the illustrious okra, a spring favourite and ALL these elongated pods have to offer. ✨
Okras sublime viscosity is well known to West and Central Africans, and we call it DRAW. This is truly the best way to properly enjoy any swallow. But also, s/o to ẹ̀wédú (chopped jute leaves) and ọbẹ̀ àpọ̀n (ogbono — ground wild mango seeds) for showing us the many exquisite ways a soup can draw. 🫠
Recipe and essay on okra soup with shrimp and greens on NYTCOOKING! ✨
