My sweet angel.
You will live on forever in my heart and my head.
You were a ray of light and color in my and so many others lives.
Nothing could’ve prepared me for this, losing you. We always said we’d go out together. But I will stay alive to keep alive the memory of you.
I’ll miss the sound of your voice and hearing it over the phone in the middle of the night. The laughter, the tears, the anger, the fears. I knew I could come to you with anything and you came to me with everything too. We always said we were twin flames, two bodies one soul. I know that’s true because half of my heart left with you.
I’ll remember our jokes about funny medication names.
And I’ll remember the way you made me laugh, the way you made me feel so seen and heard. I never felt alone because I knew everything I felt you felt too.
Our illnesses brought us together and now they’ve torn us apart.
We were just talking about planning a trip to finally be together in person. And now I’ll never know what it’s like to hug you.
The closest thing I’ll ever get to a picture with you is these AI generated photos - which is about all AI is good for imo but in this moment I’m grateful for it.
I love you to the moon and to Saturn.
I’ll never forget you.
Good bye my love…❤️‍🩹🪽

Disability pride month can be confusing to some people. “Why would anyone be proud to be disabled?”

I am proud of many things; my resilience, my strength, my passion for advocating for disability rights. I am proud of who I am both in spite of my disabilities and because of them. It’s a fine line to walk, I am who I am because of everything that I’ve endured because of my disabilities, but at the same time I am so much more than my disabilities. I’ve recently been learning that both can coexist, I can acknowledge that my disabilities helped shape me into who I am today, and still know that I am who I am because of me, not just my disabilities.

I’ve struggled with disability from age 12. I have a connective tissue disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome that has lead to an onslaught of symptoms and comorbid disabilities. I’ve seen so many doctors and specialists, done so many tests, tried so many medications and mobility aids, had so many surgeries, and cried so many tears.

It gets confusing and frustrating wanting to accept my disabilities as part of who I am and at the same time separate myself and my accomplishments from them. Recently I’ve been focusing on accepting that I am disabled, nothing is going to change that, but I am also more. Disability is a part of me and i am proud of who I am with it and despite it at the same time.
