Grace Beneath the Peaks 🦢🏔️

A swan glides across quiet water beneath Alaska’s mountains, with autumn color along the shore and reflections stretching below.

Some moments invite you to stop searching and simply appreciate what’s in front of you. A little grace, surrounded by wilderness.

Would you linger here for a while?

It’s not everyday you get to have a reindeer as your ring bearer. How neat is that.

Mallory and Riley knew exactly what they wanted to do and decided to elope somewhere with no crowds, just nature. I really admired them for sharing their vision with me and explaining how important it was for them to have me simply capture it as it was.

I guided them just a little bit, but mostly Mallory and Riley were just living their dream. Along with the colorful birch trees, leaves that had fallen to the ground, and a couple friendly reindeer. What more can you ask for.

It was truly magical and my heart was so full for the two of them.

Thank you, Mallory and Riley, for trusting me with your whole heart and inviting me to be part of one of the most important days of your lives. It truly meant so much to me. Congratulations to you both.

He rounded the ridge—and gave me a look I’ll never forget.

On my first trip to Denali, I headed up a winding road and spotted a couple of cars stopped near a bull moose. From where we stood, he was mostly walking away. Rear views usually end up in my delete pile, lol!

Then I realized he was climbing a ridge. Perhaps he would come down the other side.

I drove around, got out of my truck, and waited. Sure enough, there he was.

He came down the ridge and headed toward the road below me. As he crossed, I lowered my camera close to the ground. On the other side, he stopped and looked straight at me. Click!

I watched his ears closely, ready to leave him his space. That brief look was enough. He continued down the hill toward the sound of running water—I think he was thirsty.

What a blessing to witness such a magnificent animal, and to bring home this moment from my first Denali adventure.

What catches your eye first—those enormous antlers or that direct gaze?

Evening Journey ☀️

I had been photographing at my favorite local wildlife pond—swamp might be a better description, lol!—when I noticed gorgeous clouds and light out toward the ocean.

The forest blocked my view, and those beautiful rays weren’t going to wait for me!

I jumped in the car and headed for a spot where I could see the ocean. What a blessing to catch those beams spilling through the clouds and spreading across the water.

Sometimes an evening photographing wildlife takes a beautiful, unexpected turn.

Would you have dropped everything to follow this light?
