One of the most beautiful sub-adults I have seen, so much lighter shade of tans and browns than any I recall seeing.

Moody morning in the marsh as I watched this Harrier working its way back and forth, searching for breakfast. It was fun to sit, watching and waiting for it to complete the composition.

Raptor ride along....my co-pilot for a bit today, a juvenile Red-tailed Hawk that was in need of some TLC. Forgive my rambling, to come

While out wandering this morning, I came across this little guy perched in a dead tree about 6' off the ground. It fluttered down into a group of fallen branches and brush, so I decided to go take a look.

Upon finding him, I sat quietly while he relaxed and investigated sounds from within the brush, just inches below. I watched for about half an hour from here, as the hawk attempted to fly up to a higher vantage point, but struggled, finally landing on a dead branch beside a dead tree.

I worked my way towards him, sitting down a log and quietly moved closer. When he turned and mantled at me, I moved back and let him relax. After about another half hour of sitting just feet away, I pulled off my coat, moved a bit closer and softly covered him without a fight.

Thank you to the couple who called OWNR for me and to the gentleman who was quite shocked when I pulled over and asked for help with my seat belt, while trying be gentle with a clearly ailing bird.

And thank you, @backtothewildohio
for the years of service to our gifts from Mother Nature. This one is a bit thin, likely due to the abscess on the foot and, what appears to be, a laceration or break in the upper wing. Fingers crossed little buddy...🤞❤

Throwback Thursday today, and we have a kestrel melting into the canopy of this tree. When all the leaves have dropped we can start getting some decent raptor photos 🤞🤞🤞.

That moment when you’ve been made.
Very little escapes the attention of an Eagles eye.

Steller's sea eagle is listed as vulnerable on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s Red List of threatened species, with only around 4000 or so individuals in the wild, they are only found in a small pocket from the Kamchatka peninsula were they breed. Then along the Kuril archipelago to eastern Hokkaido and the Japanese islands, also along the Eastern coast of Korea, where they winter and feed.

Good news is there numbers seem to be increasing due to Conservation efforts. Just a personal observation, but each year more and more individuals appear to be lingering longer in these their winter feeding grounds here in Hokkaido. Fingers crossed we might see some breeding here one day.
