As soon as I saw @gratefulfreddie Roots and Acoustic Nights and @onlychildal with ''strings beside the sea'' i was instantly sold. Guaranteed to be a gorgeous night of acoustic americana with some of the north west's best. at @southportbijou cinema. "Only Child" play an annual with strings concert and O'Hare is delighted to be bringing a string quartet with him to Southport for the first time in 2026, following sold-out strings shows at Tate Liverpool, Prohibition Recording Studios and Leaf Liverpool. "Only Child" take their cue from the likes of Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, Mike Scott & The Waterboys and Christy Moore.' Liverpool Acoustic' "The message is as beautiful as the musical execution." Americana UK The Silver Freds are the "house band" at the long standing Grateful Fred's Americana, Roots and Acoustic Nights at Southport's Atkinson Theatre. Performing songs and instrumentals with their lineup of fiddle, percussion, guitar, banjo, mandolin and bass, "The Freds" repertoire ranges from Old-Timey jugband songs, Americana classics, folk and blues standards and their own originals. With both bands offering a wide range of songs and tunes right across the genres the evening will have something for everyone who enjoys live acoustic music.'' #americana #acoustic #onlychild #livemusic #southport

Some nights are about the music. Some are about something bigger... Friday 11 September sees Sumud at The Dome at Grand Central in Liverpool — a fundraising night organised by the Amos Trust in support of its Gaza Appeal. It’s an extraordinary line-up: Paul Weller & Steve Pilgrim, Ian Prowse, Declan O’Rourke, Rasha Nahas, Aziz Ibrahim and Amelia Coburn, with another very special guest still to be announced... But what makes this evening particularly important is the reason everyone is coming together. Every penny from the event will go towards humanitarian relief in Gaza. Music has always had the ability to bring people together, to give voice to things that can be difficult to articulate and, sometimes, simply to remind us that we are not powerless. Sumud — a word associated with steadfastness and resilience — feels like a particularly appropriate name for an evening like this. I’ve written about the event for @liverpool_noise , but this post is less about promoting an article and more about saying that I think this is a night worth supporting. Great musicians. A Liverpool venue. A room full of people coming together. And money going directly towards helping people who desperately need it. Friday 11 September. The Dome at Grand Central. £45 standing / £55 seated. It's going to be a special night! @amos_trust #Sumud #Liverpool #GazaAppeal #AmosTrust #LiverpoolMusic #PaulWeller #IanProwse #AmeliaCoburn #RashaNahas #AzizIbrahim #DeclanORourke #StevePilgrim #LiverpoolNoise #MusicForChange

Bruce Springsteen's songs have always belonged to more than one generation. Now, Liverpool songwriter Alan O'Hare (Only Child) has reimagined four of The Boss's most emotionally resonant tracks in a deeply personal new EP. Rather than straightforward cover versions, these are thoughtful reinterpretations exploring class, community, unemployment and hope—subjects that have shaped both Springsteen's songwriting and O'Hare's own acclaimed musical journey. I've been taking a closer look at the project, discovering why these songs still matter, and how Only Child has found a fresh perspective while remaining true to their emotional heart.
