@derrick.redd just got back in the country after being gone for a long bit, and catching up had me reflecting on life, time, and the circle.
I was looking at a certain photo the other day and it honestly hit me: If someone were to ask me today who actually knows me inside and out... man, they’re literally all standing in this exact frame (some folks we running around).
It’s wild how life forces you to rebuild, pivot, and navigate entirely new chapters, but some bonds just don’t break. These guys haven’t just been around; they’ve held the line through every single iteration of my life, through all the noise and the shifts, quietly holding me down. And shoutout to the ones who were running around too fast organizing chaos and couldn’t even get pinned down long enough to make it into the shot—y’all were just as vital to keeping the machine running.
Looking at this, my only real question is: How the hell did y’all end up in the exact same orbit, tolerating me for this long?
Real ones are irreplaceable. If you’ve got a circle that doesn’t flinch when life gets loud, hold onto ‘em. Slow down and reflect.

GHOE 2003.

I’m at George K’s, enjoying the festivities, when this guy walks up to me and starts talking about his interest in Omega Psi Phi. Neither of us knew it then, but that conversation would become the foundation of one of the most valuable friendships of my life.

Over the past 23 years, I’ve had the privilege of watching him graduate college, become a powerhouse in his industry, become a father, raise two incredible children, and now marry a woman who is truly the perfect match for him.

Not long after they started dating, she was already family. She became an extension of one of my closest friends, and her family became family too. I can’t count how many times he’s called her phone only to ask, “Why are you on the phone with my girl?” after finding out we were talking…if you’re dating Fred, you should always have someone checking in on you to make sure you’re okay.

I have an entire ecosystem of friendships that exists because I know him. When you know someone who pours so much into others, there’s something special about watching life return those blessings tenfold. Seeing all that you’ve built and all that you’ve been blessed with is nothing short of amazing.

I love you, brother, and I’m grateful to have had a front-row seat to your journey.

And if you know me, then you know how I feel about my friends and family. He didn’t get married…WE got married.

And let me tell you... we had a time. GWOE from one of the GHOE Kings!

To the Baddie Board: thank you for not only aligning with the mission, but adding value, perspective, and accountability every step of the way. Your commitment does not go unnoticed. We almost didnt host this fundraising event bc we are all at capacity but after praying and deciding to move forward, it became a sold-out experience quick. Im proud of the way we pivoted and purpose focused. THANK YOU 🧡

To every person who purchased a ticket, shared a post, commented, reposted, donated, thank you. I loved meeting many of you for the FIRST time. Your presence is a reminder if the power of community. Thank you for making this work possible.

A special thank you to our event partners and the team at V-NO. One of my favorite parts of Vineyard Vibes was seeing so many Black-owned businesses represented and supported. We weren’t just gathering for a good time, we were intentionally investing in our community while creating opportunities for the next generation.

One of the most beautiful parts of the evening was watching people connect. New friendships were formed, old friends reunited, and multiple generations gathered in one space. In a world that often feels disconnected, that felt special.

I’ll share more about this week(end), especially The Becoming but separately, because they deserve their own.
