🚨 Today is really pivotal to maintaining the energy that’s building behind the “Art & Culture is Public Safety Infrastructure” open letter.

‼️ Today 1-5pm is the first Public Comment opportunity for the City Budget. ‼️

🚨 We have the very important chance to tell the city council DIRECTLY that we stand for art and culture as the public safety infrastructure. Making your voice known at this decision-making time for city council is VITAL.

Here’s three options to participate today:

🌟 Option One (Best): Come in-person to City Hall downtown for 5pm public comment! Public comment begins at 5pm, the webpage recommends people arrive by 4:45pm to sign up to comment. A group of artists will be meeting at 4pm at Eleven:Eleven on Capitol Hill if you’d like to go with a group.

🌟 Option Two (Also Fantastic): Sign up for 1pm for REMOTE COMMENT. Remote comment begins at 1pm, and you can register to speak as early as 12pm from city budget website.

🌟 BONUS PRIZE (Do this anyway!): All day today, email all 9 council members at council@seattle.gov (or your own councilmember individually) to let them know you support the “Art and Culture is Public Safety Infrastructure” Open Letter.

🚨 Please show up today in any or all of these three ways to let the city know this is the voice of real people, real community.

✊✊🏼✊🏾 Let’s GO!!!

🧠 TEACHABLE MOMENT: Let’s use the current budget conversation around art & culture at city hall as a teachable moment.

👩🏻‍🏫 Viewing comprehension and discussion questions:

❓How do the two current art and culture funding asks to Seattle City Council differ?

❓How might the governing board and membership of Inspire Washington impact the type of policy and budget ideas they advance?

❓How should Inspire Washington respond to our efforts with the most integrity in their purported mission and transparency to their signers?

❓ How could working artists and cultural workers collectivize to exert more voice and vision in city, county, and state policy?

❓How does having shared values and principles such as the Framework for Creative Liberation support clarity, conflict resolution, and solidarity in this process?
