Happy Fourth of July Miami! Here’s our curated list of events for Saturday, July 4.

America turns 250 today. That’s incredible. Most countries don’t make it that long without healthcare.

250 years old and we’ve still got the same Constitution we started with. That’s like driving a car with the original brakes because the founders said they were good enough. “Well, the guys who owned slaves said we shouldn’t change anything, so I guess we’re locked in.”

We love the Fourth of July in Miami. It’s the one day a year where fireworks are legal and gunshots are a guessing game. Was that a celebration or a crime? Who knows. Either way, someone’s going to the hospital.

Miami celebrates America’s birthday different than the rest of the country. In the Midwest they do parades with veterans and flags and apple pie. In Miami we do a cookout where someone’s father gets too drunk and starts crying about Castro. And let me tell you baby, it’s a tradition that’s alive and well.

You know what’s crazy? We’re celebrating freedom in a city where half the population came here specifically because they didn’t have any. The Cubans, the Haitians, the Venezuelans, the Nicaraguans. They fought to be here, busted their ass, built a life, only for their American-born kids to post Instagram stories complaining about the wifi at brunch.

The founding fathers would be amazed we made it this far. Mostly because they died at like 40 from diseases we cured with soap.

We love this country though. Where else can you be one medical emergency away from bankruptcy and still spend $400 on fireworks? If that’s not patriotism, someone tell my illegal uncle he can stop driving up and down 8th street with flags hanging from the back of his pickup donning a red hat and honking his horn.

Happy birthday America. You don’t look a day over collapsing empire.

Happy Friday Miami! Here’s our curated list of events for Friday, May 8. BTW, The Weekend Navigator is live with everything happening through Sunday. Drop a 📍 and we’ll DM you the link.

Publix just asked customers to stop openly carrying firearms in their stores. Not told. Asked. “Publix kindly asks that only law enforcement openly carry firearms in our stores.” Kindly. They wrote that shit with a please and a smile like they’re asking you not to eat the grapes before you weigh them.

Six months. That’s how long the experiment lasted. Six months of wandering past the buy-one-get-one deals wondering if the guy debating between creamy and chunky peanut butter has a nine on his hip. And you know what ended it? Some dipshit in Miramar accidentally fired their gun inside the store. Nobody got hit, thank God, but imagine being the manager on duty for that. “Cleanup on aisle seven. Also call the cops. Also I quit.”

We really live in a place where a billion dollar company had to have a meeting about whether letting people carry visible weapons while shopping for chicken tenders was good for business. Someone made a PowerPoint for that. Someone presented it to executives. Someone said “let’s see how it plays out” and six months later a gun went off near the deli counter and now here we are.

The best part is it’s not even a rule. It’s a suggestion. Like “please return your cart to the corral.” We all know how well that works. Half of you leave your carts in the parking lot like animals. Now we’re trusting you to leave the strap at home because Publix asked nicely?

Florida is undefeated. We never miss. Unlike that guy in Miramar, who thankfully also missed.

Got an event coming up? Want to get it in front of Miami’s most engaged audience? Drop a 🟦 and we’ll DM you our event submission form. Submit 72 hours before your event for consideration.

We love you Miami. Happy Friday. Don’t shoot anybody. 🧡
