THE ONES BUILDING — Across disciplines, a new class of independent founders is creating more than businesses—they’re building distinct worlds, communities and new ways of experiencing culture.

From fashion and design to hospitality, creative practice and gathering spaces, their work reflects a point of view entirely their own.

These are a few of the founders, and the work, that have our attention right now.

ROOTED: “THE CROWN WE CARRY”
shifts focus toward Black men, examining the personal and cultural relationship between hair and self-expression.

For Black men, hair exists beyond style, it is a living symbol of lineage, transformation, discipline, and individuality. From freshly cut to fully grown, braided, or locked, each state reflects a different moment in one’s journey.

We featured multiple Black men across a range of hairstyles, textures, and stages of grooming, capturing the diversity and nuance of how the “crown” is worn and understood. ROOTED aims to document both the visible and internal aspects of this relationship. Strength and softness, pride and vulnerability, presence and introspection.

BIG CREW LOVE TO THE APRIL TEAM 💚🤞🏽🪮👑
