The era of exploiting Black creatives for their talent without fair compensation is coming to an end.

We Still Don’t Have Fair Compensation for Black Creatives ️

Did you know that the creative industry has a long history of exploiting Black talent, undervaluing their contributions, and failing to compensate them fairly? It's time to change that narrative and champion equality! ✊

Let's look at some eye-opening data: According to a recent study by @crunchbase Black-led startups raised just 0.2% of the total venture capital investments. Black creatives are consistently paid significantly less than their non-Black counterparts, despite their immense talent and cultural influence. This wage disparity perpetuates systemic inequities and stifles the growth of diverse voices in the creative landscape.

But here's the good news: A powerful shift is happening! People and corporations are awakening to the urgent need for change. By ensuring fair compensation for Black creatives, we foster an environment that not only respects their skills but also recognizes their immense value.

✨ Imagine a future where Black artists, designers, writers, producers, and musicians are fairly remunerated for their creative brilliance. By supporting and paying Black creatives their worth, we fuel their motivation, enable their artistic growth, and amplify their voices to shape a more inclusive and vibrant creative industry.

We must hold corporations and individuals accountable for their actions. Share this message to spread awareness and start conversations about fair compensation for Black creatives. “Dear Kerstin,

Merry Christmas. I think about you often and the day we met. You really left an impression on me, just being kind and caring. You didn’t know me and you offered to help me. You listened to me and even GAVE me something that could help me. I started reading the book a little. My anxiety and depression has held me back from caring where I belong to finish it. But now I do care. I was trying to figure out how to get away and get a break. I’m going to Florida! My aunt lives in Jacksonville so I’m going to start there, get sober, and tour Florida. Then by March I’m going to leave the nest and explore. If everything goes right, I should be in Maine by Fall. I’m going to post everything so keep a look out.

All in all, I really wanted to say thank you for being you, so open, gracious, and helpful. I greatly appreciate our two encounters and texts. It has changed my idea of what is obtainable… happiness.

I don’t have much but I hope these rose gold emerald studs show my appreciation.”

Last Christmas a beautiful soul wrote this in a card and gifted the earrings you see me wearing. It was one of the few gifts I received and served as an affirmation that I am on the right path. I had NO IDEA the impact I made when we met and was surprised when she reached out months later to ask for my address. Her words, the earrings - they shocked me. I was experiencing my own depression working through the beginning of the end of a romantic relationship and long time friendship. She picked me up just in the way I had helped her and it meant the 🌎 to me.

I wear these earrings almost everyday. They remind me of my purpose and give me strength to see it through, especially in the challenging moments. They also remind me how important it is to listen and that there’s always something you can give. In a time where there’s so much in flux, may this serve as a reminder that sometimes listening + giving what you have (in my case it was presence and a copy of the book Belong by @love.radha) are more than enough. You NEVER know how the smallest of gestures can make a difference. #myprayeris we consciously create a world that unites 🙏
