POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Yesterday was the journalism graduation. I was in the department for five years, on the publication for one.

Some have been there longer, some shorter.

It hasn’t fully hit yet, the idea of closing this chapter. It will soon. Maybe tomorrow or maybe next month.

But while the memory is still fresh, the adrenaline still pumping, and the photos still timely (kinda), let me impart some of the wisdom I’ve gathered during my short time at Golden Gate Xpress.

An açaí bowl and a beer on campus cost the same amount, one is enjoyable and the other will sometimes give you heartburn.

There’s free parking behind Mashouf, if you don’t mind the walk.

Maintaining a healthy balance outside of the newsroom will keep you sane.

There is no such thing as silent burps.

As much as you might think you’re the next Cartier-Bresson, you’re not and you should buy a good zoom lens.

The stairs are always faster than the Humanities elevators.

The newsroom usually closes at 6pm, the Pub at 9pm, and the news does not.

Despite having a faculty parking permit, you cannot park overnight.

An Uber home is usually $20 but sleeping on your friend’s floor is free.

Chewable Lactaid does NOT taste good. Regular Lactaid tastes worse.

As long as you leave campus by 2:45 you CAN still make it to Takahashi before the kitchen closes.

You can write stories about AS, you can run through a line of police officers in pursuit of a fifth-place swimmer and conservative personality, you can close out the newsroom, you can get kicked out of a liquor store and you can stand in the cold at some random reservoir chasing a non-event.

You can do all these things and more, but you haven’t got a chance if you go it alone.

It was an amazing year, filled with stress, beauty, laughter, Quickly’s popcorn chicken, and the news.

You have all been a great team and I couldn’t have asked for any better.
Fall ‘22-Spring ‘23.
