Hi , I am Natasha (@natasha.sachdeva7 ) a visual artist based in Delhi.
I am happy taking over this Instagram account for today and talk in depth about my art practice , thought process and my journey so far.
I would begin by thanking @opencallindia for providing this platform where emerging artists like me can share more about their practice to a wider audience.

My art practice stems from a very personal and sensitive experience related to my body and how people around me have reacted to its dramatic changes over the years. In my teenage years I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Disorder/ PCOD - an hormonal disorder in females ,Because of this condition my body has undergone dramatic changes, from severe weight gain to considerable weight loss. But the scars and baggage from my heavier days remains – I may have shed all the extra weight from my body, but my mind and heart are still overweight. The bullying and the struggle I had to deal with the way I once looked has bottled up deep inside me and I feel that through my works I am releasing these heavy emotions in bits and pieces. The works are a catharsis.
The immediate reaction to my works ofen makes the viewers uncomfortable- a visual that is not commonly seen or talked about , a sight that might make the viewer feel ‘heavier’.
I paint what might not seem ‘beautiful’ and ‘graceful’ - My subject is unedited and unfiltered, portraying deep layers that may not seem appealing but that is a part of one’s existence that is inevitable.
I would like to mention this incident that led to the beginning of this series, back in 2018, I came back home from studio in the evening, went to change and as I was looking at myself in the mirror ,realised that my bra strap was torn , that visual was so fascinating to me that I instantly captured it and later when I painted the same on a very small scale though, it gave me inner peace as if I have shedded a small portion of the baggage I have been carrying since a teenager.
I work mainly with Watercolors , the sensitivity of the medium and my subject go well together.

C for Chettinad

Chettinad is a region located in southern Tamilnadu and is quite popular for its architecture, food, and rich history amidst other things. Huge, elegant mansions are a common sight in the region and were built by wealthy traders back in the day. Just around 100 years ago, more than 22,000 such mansions existed in the region with just half of it remaining now!
The tiles in the region are an absolute beauty with colourful patterns and eye pleasing designs. I’ve always been in awe of the cultural heritage and buildings of the region and hope to visit it sometime soon post covid!

For this year’s 36 days of type, I’ve chosen Tamilnadu and it’s culture as my theme. I’ve always been interested in culture and thought why not start it local. A huge thanks to y’all for your immense response in helping me with this theme! I’ll be mixing up culture, history, food and even some funny anecdotes!

A-pollo.

Life's been very overwhelming since January, it's not easy to see people you love go through shit.

Hospitals are always overwhelming, you see Hope, Faith, Fear, Pain, Death and Birth all at one place.

Doctors and heath workers are the real artists and healers, It's a different game all together to show up everyday and deal with people hanging between life and death, giving their energy to make things better for others.
That's not everybody's cup of tea and it holds a different kinda courage and strength to do that.

Part of my bilingual book design project about The Classical Dances of India for a course （书籍设计）in Tsinghua University. @tsinghua_uni
A very minimalistic approach for drawing mudras, a departure from my usual extensively detailed preference towards art.
Experimented a little with the layout to create something visually interesting rather than everything fitting neatly into a grid.
