I met up with @the.salted.mango for lunch at Open Rice! I have been craving dim sum and after this we both agreed we need to go back with more friends on a Sunday for the true dim sum experience.

They offer a lot of Cantonese dishes because the owners are from Hong Kong. This type of food is some of my favorite, but it can be hard to find in NC.

Receipt at the end!! Everything was really good and their chili oil is spicy.

My first dim sum push cart experience at @openricemet! 😍 With over 50 handmade options to choose from, this weekend offering is SO MUCH FUN and so delicious. I was so overwhelmed but in the best way! I remember leaving Texas and telling my family I’d be back in three months. That was 10.5 years ago. I had no idea what this city would become to me. It’s been a winding road; it’s seen me wander, make mistakes, learn from them, discover my own faith, buy a home, build a life, build my career, then find the confidence to start over again and again, but ultimately, Charlotte has saved my life.

533 people donated to my Go Fund Me after my accident (!!!) I still can’t believe it. People from my childhood, from college, from music, and so many from the creative and entrepreneurial community of Charlotte. They contributed towards me being able to physically, emotionally, mentally, and financially heal from my life almost being taken from me.

Please hold your people close — don’t take any interaction, conversation, transaction for granted. Humans need humans. And support all of the businesses tagged, who out of the kindness of their hearts, supported me all the way from 11 months ago, to now.

You’re all that and dim sum 🥟

If you’re looking for an authentic dim sum experience with push carts, head to Open Rice in Metropolitan! They’re the ONLY place in Charlotte that has dim sum carts.

If you’ve never had dim sum, it’s a traditional Chinese meal made up of a wide variety of small plates including steamed, baked and fried dishes that is typically enjoyed around brunch time. I love it because it allows you to order a lot of different small dishes so that you can try a vast array of food items!

They have most of the classic dim sum dishes including various dumplings (including soup dumplings), shrimp har gow, BBQ pork buns, shu mai, egg tarts, shrimp rice rolls, lotus leaf sticky rice, congee, BBQ spare ribs & turnip cakes. For the more adventurous eater, they have dishes like chicken feet, jellyfish, and tripe.

You can still order off their main menu during dim sum if you’d like some larger dishes for sharing.

My faves were:
🍤 Shrimp har gow
🥟 Shumai
🍖 BBQ pork buns
🍢 Sesame balls
🥟 Pan fried pork buns

🗓️ You can order dim sum daily during lunch & dinner but the carts are only available during WEEKEND LUNCH (recommend going early to avoid a wait)
🅿️ Parking is FREE at the Metropolitan parking deck
💸 I will say that the dim sum here is more expensive than what I’m used to compared to other cities, but overall very happy there’s a dim sum push cart spot in Charlotte to satisfy my cravings

@openricemet is an Asian kitchen with two locations in Charlotte- Midtown and Ballantyne.

In Hong Kong, “open rice” is an expression that symbolizes family and joy so here, they’re hope is that you’ll relax with your loved ones and enjoy a meal.

The menu consists of Asian classics like sesame chicken and general Tso’s as well as ramen, fried rice, curry and so much more! They’ve got a large selection of boba drinks and bubble waffles. I went for the dim sum 👌 It was SO good!

• Strawberry Fruit tea with boba
• Steamed Egg Custard Buns
• Shrimp Dumplings
• Chicken Soup Dumplings
• Fried Sticky Dumplings with pork and shrimp
• Chicken and Broccoli with rice

There are SOOO many things to try when you go to @openricemet and when you do, you have to try their DIM SUM MENU (open only during the weekends)!

This was one last giant meal hoorah with my parents before I had to drive back to Chapel Hill :( But we spent the our lunch together with some of the tastiest foods!

• Siu Mai (STEAMED PORK DUMPLINGS WITH SHRIMP)
• BBQ PORK BUNS
• SPARED RIBS WITH BLACK BEAN SAUCE
• FRIED SHRIMP BALLS
• Steamed Shrimp Ball
• Char Siu
• Flan
• SESAME BALLS

and for the road + dusty, my parents ordered so much take out for us!
