🇲🇲 Curious about authentic Burmese food but intimidated by ordering at Peninsula Plaza? I found a cosy alternative at Avenue’J at SOTA!

Was initially worried about the fermented flavours, but @avenuejsg pleasantly surprised me! Affordable prices, lovely cafe vibes and lots of Burmese diners who looked like regulars — a good sign of authenticity! 🤩

🍜 Mohinga — A classic Burmese fish noodle dish that you can customise with your preferred amount of sauce and chilli powder!

🌶️ Rakhine Mote Ti (Ar Pu Shar Pu) — MY FAVOURITE! Fragrant, mildly spicy dry noodles served in a cute tingkat-style dish with soup underneath. A weekly special I wish were permanent! The soup is q salty tho~

🍆 Village Grilled Eggplant Salad — First time trying eggplant with its flesh scraped out and seasoned, without the skin 🤪

🐟 Burmese Stuffed Fish Cake — Like steamboat seafood balls sliced in half and stuffed with cabbage salad, served with lime chilli dressing.

🍚 Chin Paung Htamin with Fried Chicken Thigh — Earthy, herbal rice has a pungent fermented smell, but surprisingly tolerable when eaten! 😂

🥔 Traditional Spice Potato Samosa — Savoury potato filling with tangy tamarind sauce for dipping

🍌 Banana Paratha — Warm and dessert-like with maple syrup! I just wished it were crispier, like Thai roti 😝

🍵 Strawberry Matcha Latte — Niko Neko matcha meets Korean-style strawberry milk. Matcha lovers, you NEED to try this! 🤤

🥤 Sule Sunrise — Fruity with a lemon-barley-like aftertaste.

🍓 Strawberry Sunset — Pineapple juice and strawberry syrup that surprisingly work well together, with gorgeous presentation too!

Even if you’re not quite ready to explore Burmese food, their drinks are worth checking out! 🫶🏻

🥣 Stock up your pantry with a few packs of Del Monte Tetra Pak Corn! These are ready-to-eat and so versatile for daily cooking!

I cooked an Asian-style Sweetcorn Egg Drop Soup in a quick time!
📝Here's the recipe:

1 pack of Del Monte Whole Kernel Corn, drained
1 small Carrot
4-5 pc Fresh Black Fungus
2 pc Picnic Ham
1 Egg, beaten
1L Clear Chicken Stock
Cornstarch
½ tsp Sesame Oil
Dashes of Pepper

-Julienne the carrot, black fungus & ham.
-Bring the chicken stock to a boil. Add in the carrot, black fungus and corn. Boil for about 3 min, add in the ham and boil another minute.
-Add sesame oil, pepper and season to taste with salt/soy sauce if needed.
-Mix 2 tablespoons of corn flour to 2 tablespoons of water. Stir into the soup to lightly thickens it. Drizzle in the beaten egg. Garnish with coriander (optional).
-Ready to serve!

😋Add in black vinegar & chilli oil and you get a Sichuan-style Hot and Sour Soup!
It's so easy to recreate this soup at home!

Nothing beats gathering around the grill (especially when someone cooking for you), sharing good food, and making memories with the family! 🥰 Tonight, we found ourselves transported to retro Korea at 𝐁𝐚𝐞 𝐒𝐢𝐤 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐠 in Tanjong Pagar, 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐞 🇸🇬.

🥩 Their signature 𝐍𝐚𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐬𝐚𝐦 features 𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐫𝐚-𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐲 grilled the old-school way, premium wagyu beef, paired with LOTS of kimchi and an array of delicious sides!

Affordable Peranakan food in the CBD from just $8.90?! 👀

If you’re working in the CBD and looking for something other than the usual lunch options, check out Nyonya Next Door. They offer affordable lunch sets, and you can add coffee, tea, calamansi drinks and sides to complete your meal!

Here’s what we tried! 👇
🍗 Coconut Chicken Kapitan + Lemongrass & Blue Pea Coconut Rice — My favourite of the lot! The chicken was so tender and fragrant, with that lovely coconut flavour. Definitely one I’d recommend!

🥩 Beef Brisket Rendang + Nyonya Black Curry Rice — the black curry rice might not look the most appealing 😂 Don’t judge this one by its looks!

🍜 Buah Keluak Chicken + Signature Kerabu Vermicelli — The vermicelli is only available during lunch, so definitely give it a try! The buah keluak chicken was pretty interesting, though buah keluak flavour wasn’t quite my thing so we ended up sharing this instead 😂

🐟 Assam Pedas Barramundi + Lemongrass & Blue Pea Coconut Rice — More sour than spicy for me, but a good option if you prefer fish over chicken or beef!

🍹 Calamansi & Sour Plum Drink — Super refreshing with a nice sour and salty kick! If that’s not your thing, you can always go for the usual kopi, teh or soft drinks.

Need more to go with your mains? You can add sides like chicken wings, otah, fish fillet, ngoh hiang, bergedil and sambal goreng too! 🤩

📌 A little tip if you’re planning to visit: It gets pretty packed during lunch, so expect a crowd! There aren’t any air-conditioned seats, but the open-air seating is actually quite cooling thanks to the huge ceiling fan overhead. So don’t let the lack of air-con put you off! 😂

Lunch with a riverside view at Boat Quay.

Always nice to find a spot where you can sit by the water, enjoy the breeze and take your time over lunch. @simonsayscafe has a lovely waterfront setting, perfect for catching up over a meal while watching the boats go by.

And of course, I’m already thinking about coming back for their Hainan Curry Risotto! ❤️

🐖White Pepper Pig Stomach Hot Pot
Nothing beats a warm and comforting peppery soup with lots of pig stomach and chicken, and the best part you can order add on ingredients that you fancy such as prawns, pork belly, potato, spinach, bamboo shoot just like having it like a steamboat
Dont worry it's not too peppery or spicy coz my kids love it, drink non stop

🍲Chinese Sausage Claypot Rice
Cant get any more classic than this, with chinese sausage and super fragrant rice bits

🍖Braised Ribs with Carrot
1 dish that the entire family loves, the ribs were super tender and mixture of vegetables like carrot, bell pepper all in pot, perfect for communal dining

🥚Century Egg Tofu
Great as a starter, I love century egg, so it's no secret, this is my favorite too!!

🍞Golden Mantou with Condensed Milk - a hit with kids, must order!

This is exactly what luxury tastes like this Diwali...

We were feasted to @spicemahalsg for its upcoming Diwali degustation menu , located centrally at The Plaza, spotting a warm, inviting and stylish interior.

Starting with khakra and pappad with a trio of pickle and chutney , followed by a refreshing amuse bouche, table side pour of broccoli soup, and tandoori atlantic lobster served with murgh kesari kebab (chicken kebab topped with egg white foam)

After passionfruit sorbet palate cleanser, comes the main course - goan prawn curry served over a fragrant coconut rice served together with lamb kolhapuri, crispy okra and dal panchphoron (slow cooked lentils)

We were also served Kulcha basket consisting Jaituni Kulcha (Olive Kuicha) and Triple Cheese Kulcha (Cream Cheese, Amul Cheese & Mozzarella) - so good dipping with the dal or the prawn curry

I especially raita and this is probably the best raita I had ever tasted, Burani Raita blended with garlic and mild spices

Ending on a sweet note is a duo of kesari lachedar jalebi with lychee kulfi and a cup of fragrant Kashmiri Kahwa tea, presented in the prettiest tea cup

Exceptional food and even more amazing service and hospitality, definitely one of my favourite dining experiences this year!

🥟 Crispy-fried Chicken Floss Spring Rolls — Chicken floss as the filling instead of the usual ingredients? Such an interesting twist!

🦀 Pan-Seared Chili Crab Dumpling — Chili crab filling AND chili crab sauce. If you love chilli crab, this one is a must-try 💯

🐟 Crispy-fried Dory Fish Bites — Super soft inside with a crispy exterior! I’d love these even more with a mayo or tartar sauce dip.

🐷 Braised Pork Belly with Steamed Bun — Nicely braised pork belly, and the bun is surprisingly thin! Perfect for me because I’m not a fan of those super thick kong ba bao buns 😂

🍳 Fried Eggs in Scallion Sesame Sauce — Okay, this should really be called EXPLODING EGGS 🤯 So good, and I can imagine this going perfectly with a bowl of plain rice!

🍤 Crispy-fried Youtiao with Prawns Paste — Crispy on the outside but chewy inside. The pineapple and prawn paste pairing was interesting!

🍜 Braised “Tai O” Rice Vermicelli with Seafood — One of my favourites! I almost wiped out the whole plate myself and honestly wished the portion was bigger 🤣

🍊 Red Bean Soup with Dried Tangerine Peel — The tangerine peel really elevates the flavour!

🥜 Cartoon Pistachio Buns — No fighting because they all have pistachio paste inside 😂 Not too sweet, making these a lovely way to end the meal!

🍄 Chilled Fruit and Baby Mushrooms Tarts — These are served cold, and yes, those are legit mushrooms on the tarts! Definitely an interesting one.

🍺 Heineken Beer Bottle Promotion: 2 for $9.80 — Something to enjoy with your meal!
