TODAY! Come join us at the JC Writers Studio for a workshop with our special guest, Sean Glatch! @glatchkeykid You will leave this generative workshop with new poem drafts, prompts to inspire future work, and a community of outsiders to support you through your poetic journey. 📆 Saturday, September 12, 2026 📍JC WRITERS LOFT 157B 1st St, Jersey City ⏰ 5-7pm What to bring: Notebook, laptop and pen, and your imagination! Gee, I’ll bet monsters are interesting.” —Bugs Bunny Monsters reflect our personal and cultural fascinations with what’s Other. As such, poets Othered by society find metaphor and meaning in monstrosity. A monster is an identity that can be both victim and victor, something stitched or dissembled, a creature celebrated and detested—often at the same time. More than anybody, monsters need poetry. In this workshop, poets will study the monster as a cultural entity and think through their own experiences of monstrosity. We will study Othered poets, particularly queer, trans, disabled, and BIPOC poets who dig beneath the surface of identity. Poets we read include sam sax, Kenji C. Liu, Torrin A. Greathouse, Angela Veronica Wong, and other keepers of the monster. About Our Teacher: @glatchkeykid Sean Glatch is a queer poet and educator in New York City. His work has appeared or is forthcoming in The Rumpus, Foglifter, Ninth Letter, Strange Horizons, The Gay & Lesbian Review, and elsewhere. Sean currently runs the creative writing school Writers.com and the forthcoming card game Poemancer. Learn more here: seanglatch.com We’re located at 157B First Street, Jersey City NJ. A keycard is required to get into the building, so we will look for people downstairs until 5:15pm at the latest, so please be on time! If you know you’re going to be later than 5:15pm, please comment below and I will make arrangements to meet you downstairs. Come on out to see our amazing features who will turn up the heat!!. “Ms. Jenn (she/her) is a Jersey City poet, mother of two, graduate student, and self-proclaimed collector of half-filled notebooks. Her work has appeared in Chill Mag, Afterworld, The Rutherford Red Wheelbarrow, Creative Stillness Anthology, New Jersey Bards Poetry Review, and other publications. When she’s not writing or attending open mic events, she’s usually behind a camera, working on a painting, chasing deadlines, or wondering why she agreed to add one more project to her already packed schedule. Through her poetry, Ms. Jenn hopes to remind people that even our most personal stories have a way of bringing us together.” DS Will is a poet, performer, curator, and founder of Press Play Poets.
