This is what we mean when we say “Opera to the People.”

The iconic “Inneggiamo” brought together 30+ community choir singers, our professional chorus, and chamber orchestra under the musical direction of Carlos Foggin.

Joined by Barbara King as Santuzza and Heidi Muendel as Mamma Lucia, this moment was incredibly special every night.

Our community singers learned the Easter Hymn in a single workshop, then joined the cast to create our Sicilian village of Cavalleria rusticana.

Other things were said, but this is all I heard. I've never seen a Cary Grant movie, but I know a famous name when I see one. Let me know if this a compliment.

No, i loved singing Dottore Malatesta in Highlands Opera Studio's production of Don Pasquale. I hope they do it again next year so I can sing Malatesta again. Lets make this an annual thing!

“Vickers was a PHENOMENON.”

Born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, on October 29, 1926, Canadian tenor Jon Vickers became one of the most acclaimed opera performers of the 20th century.

After moving to Winnipeg, Vickers was encouraged to pursue singing and received a scholarship to study with Toronto teacher George Lambert. He soon performed in oratorios, on CBC radio and television, and with the Opera Festival, the precursor to the Canadian Opera Company.

In 1957, Vickers made his debut with London's Royal Opera at Covent Garden. Within four years, he had sung in every major opera theatre, becoming renowned for the power of his voice and performances known for their dramatic intensity, sincerity, and diction.

After three decades performing around the world, Vickers gave his final public performance in Kitchener in May 1988, singing the second act of Parsifal. He never sang in public again.

In 2015, Opera Canada remembered Vickers as “one of the greatest singing actors of all time” and “a true phenomenon.”

Box Concerts are so back 📦✨🥹 Thought I’d share the sweetest moment of last season: we were performing for a summer camp, and these kiddos got so into the storytelling they started joining in. They were so dear, I wanted to pack them all up in the box and take them with me. 😭❤️‍🩹

Benton and I will be popping up around the city this week and screaming opera at unsuspecting citizens. Keep an eye out, Toronto!!

The first four days are LTC homes, but Friday and Saturday I’ll be around more public areas :)

Thanks to @galileinjembo for his emotional support and encouragement to post this as a reel 😂
