Second performance of Faust today at @operakrakowska.💎👑✨😍 I’m grateful to Robert Piaskowski and Monika Partyk for their thoughtful words about this production and my Marguerite, after my debut: “Marcelina Roman’s Marguerite remains the emotional centre of the production. She is a soprano with international aspirations and considerable stage experience, developing remarkably well in this role. She also has a beautiful vocal timbre. She guides her character from youthful curiosity and wonder, through the exhilaration of love, to loneliness and madness. Her portrayal is strikingly expressive. Her Marguerite is not merely a victim of the diabolical pact. She is a character whose inner transformation becomes the true subject of the production. The famous Jewel Song, ‘Ah! je ris de me voir si belle en ce miroir’, was not merely a vocal showcase. It is a scene in which Marguerite discovers a new version of herself, without yet understanding the price of this transformation. Particularly powerful is the later scene in which the heroine gives birth and the infant is thrown into an iron bucket, followed by her delusions as she cradles a bundle of clothes. Her gestures, uncertain and desperately tender, guided by the Director, are very well conceived. In the finale, in the prison scene and the aria ‘Anges purs, anges radieux’, Roman gives the heroine’s awakening to consciousness and spiritual liberation extraordinary strength. It is as though she had reserved all her strength for this moment. Condemned by people, she is saved in an order that transcends human judgment. Her journey does not end in a simple triumph of innocence, but in the recovery of dignity.” — @robert_piaskowski In her review for @ruchmuzyczny, journalist Monika Partyk also writes: “Marcelina Román shone brightest, revealing the drama of Marguerite.” Thank you both for taking the time to engage so deeply with this production and with Marguerite’s journey. Now, back to Marguerite for tonight’s performance. See you at the theatre!🫶🏻❤️

A few reviews of our 'Faust' in @operakrakowska 'If the title of an opera were to depend on the artistic performances, Gounod’s work, based on Arrigo Boito’s libretto, ought to be called Mephistopheles or, as in German-speaking countries, Margarethe. Rafał Siwek dominated the stage – both vocally and in his acting – confirming his international reputation with his portrayal of the demon’. [ @ruchmuzyczny ] ‘In a meticulously assembled cast, Rafał Siwek stood out most in his superbly sung portrayal of the demonic Mephistopheles; one might say it was a performance of the very highest calibre, brilliantly constructed in dramatic terms. His Mephistopheles is the very embodiment of evil!’ [opera magazine Okolice opery] ‘There is no denying that ‘Faust’ at the Kraków Opera revolves around Mephisto. Rafał Siwek takes centre stage in this production. It is not merely a matter of superb vocal performances, but perhaps above all of situating evil within various contexts. The Devil plays with the other characters, stirring the cultural cauldron with fierce abandon’.

Będzie to jednak Dedykacja i dialog Dyrektora teatru z Poetą. [...] W obsadzie: Jakub Luboiński / Szymon Rona / Adam Sobierajski, Janusz Dębowski / Tomasz Kuk / Adam Zdunikowski, Wołodymyr Pańkiw / Rafał Siwek, Paula Maciołek / Edyta Piasecka / Marcelina Román / Iwona Socha, Stanisław Kuflyuk / Michał Kutnik / Grzegorz Rubacha, Zuzanna Klemańska / Monika Korybalska / Ewa Menaszek, Magdalena Barylak / Maryana Berezyak / Agnieszka Cząstka-Niezgódka / Karin Wiktor-Kałucka oraz Klaudia Bawer. Kostiumy zaprojektowała Małgorzata Słoniowska, światła reżyseruje Dawid Karolak, choreografię ułożył Jacek Tyski, zaś za projekcje odpowiada Karolina Jacewicz. #premiera #naszteatr #opera #operakrakowska #faust
