As Patron of Opera on the Avalon (OOTA) it is a pleasure to recognize & promote the creative approach taken by the opera company to share the incredible talent of world-class artists during the pandemic. COVID-19 has meant the cancellation of live performances negatively impacting the artistic community. The Rock Performs, a digital music festival, is a six-part video series filmed throughout beautiful scenic NL by Roger Maunder (Up Sky Down Films), with back-up photography by David Howells, featuring Andy Jones, Alanna Fraize, Eastern Owl, Lynn Kuo, OOTA CEO Cheryl Hickman & David Pomeroy. 🙌 IT’S HERE! @operaontheavalon’s ‘The Rock Performs’ video!

I was so flattered and tickled to be asked to perform as part of @operaontheavalon’s digital music 🎼 festival, which brought great artists to the screen, and set us against the gorgeous backdrop of my home province of Newfoundland 🌊.

🎬 This video was shot in downtown St. John's, Newfoundland in the middle of the day right after I led a Lynnja Session 🎻 (my signature group practice sessions over Zoom) with my Summer Violin Bootcampers.

Before I met my Violin Bootcampers online, @keitbah, the costume designer, literally bought a red dress 👗 in the mall that morning and altered it to fit me while I rushed back home to meet my Bootcampers online. Keith had even made a matching mask 😷 with the leftover dress scraps!

As Patron of Opera on the Avalon (OOTA), it is a pleasure to again recognize the creative team, cast & crew of this amazing opera company, the only opera company in Atlantic Canada. Congratulations on winning Outstanding New Opera for Shanawdithit, co-produced with Tapestry Opera, at the 2020 Dora Mavor Moore Awards presented by TAPA Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts. Composed by Dean Burry, Libretto by Yvette Nolan, the newly commissioned opera rightly involved Indigenous artists & consultants to tell an important story while ensuring history is preserved & shared with new audiences. Pleased to host the cast at Government House on National Indigenous Peoples Day, June 21st, 2019 for a performance of pieces from Shanawdithit.
